Fans Are Rediscovering a 90s Favourite
A fresh online discussion has reminded many film lovers why Encino Man continues to stand out among the flood of teen comedies released during the early 90s. Fans described it as a perfect snapshot of the era, packed with every ingredient that made those films so entertaining.
They pointed to Pauly Shore's unmistakable surfer style, his made up slang and carefree personality, alongside Brendan Fraser's energetic performance as the thawed out caveman Link. Sean Astin's awkward teenager trying to impress his high school crush, combined with clueless parents, an over the top bully and a memorable makeover scene, all helped create a film that many believe has aged surprisingly well.

'People ask about sequels to my films a lot, and that movie is a movie I'd love to do a sequel on it, but it's up to Disney', Shore said. He added that everyone is effectively waiting until the studio decides to move forward, with a strong script also needed before production could begin.
The Original Cast Is Ready To Return
One encouraging detail for longtime fans is that the biggest stars appear willing to reunite. Shore has repeatedly suggested that both Brendan Fraser and Sean Astin would happily return if Disney approved the sequel.
Back in 2021, Shore even encouraged fans to contact Disney+ in support of the project. Marking the film's anniversary, he wrote that he, Fraser and Astin were all ready to return, ending the message with his famous catchphrase, 'We'll be wiezen the juice.'
Disney Remains the Biggest Roadblock
Despite growing nostalgia and continued fan demand, Disney has shown little public interest in reviving the franchise. As the rights holder, the studio ultimately controls whether the sequel can move beyond conversations and become a real production.
