Jennifer Lawrence recalls a ‘Gay’ love interest during her Call Her Daddy appearance Call Her Daddy/YouTube Screenshot

Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about a past romantic interest on a podcast, describing her reaction when a man she liked told her he was gay. The conversation became humorous when Lawrence joked about how the story ended.

Speaking with host Alex Cooper, Lawrence described ignoring what she considered a romantic obstacle and pursuing the man despite his reservations. Lawrence then joked that the man she pursued eventually became her husband.

This exchange was part of the 28 October 2026 episode of Call Her Daddy, titled 'Jennifer Lawrence: Hunger Games, Hot Takes & Online Hate'. The episode further covered Lawrence's career, motherhood, and dating experiences.

A Dating Story With a Twist

The conversation began with Cooper asking Lawrence whether people tend to overshare when they meet her, to which Lawrence replied, 'No. Nobody ever overshares more than me'.

A few minutes later, she asked Lawrence about the biggest red flag she had overlooked in a past relationship. The actress recalled being obsessed with a man who explicitly told her he was gay.

'He was gay and told me he was gay,' Lawrence explained. Recalling her response, she said, 'No, you're not. You're gay right now. Just give me a chance.'

When Cooper assumed the pair had not ended up together, Lawrence responded, 'No, we did. Okay. That's my husband'. After a brief laugh, she added, 'I'm just kidding,' turning the exchange into a joke rather than a revelation about her marriage.

The anecdote prompted humorous reactions on X, including one user who wrote: 'Damn Jennifer changed a gay man to a straight man that explains how hot she is.'

Who is Jennifer Lawrence's husband?

Jennifer Lawrence married Cooke Maroney, a New York-based art gallery director, in October 2019. He studied art history at New York University and worked as a senior director at Gladstone Gallery before leaving in 2025 to pursue independent projects. Unlike Lawrence, Maroney maintains a relatively private public profile.

The couple met through a mutual friend in 2018 and began dating that year. Maroney proposed in early 2019, less than a year into their relationship. They married at the Belcourt of Newport mansion in Rhode Island.

According to People, sources close to Lawrence noted that Maroney treated her as a person rather than a celebrity. Lawrence has also described their relationship as a refreshing change from her previous dating experiences.

They welcomed their first son, Cy, in February 2022. The couple welcomed their second child in 2025, though they have kept the younger child's name and other details private.

Lawrence has occasionally discussed their relationship in interviews. In 2019, she told Entertainment Tonight that Maroney was 'the best person I've ever met in my whole life,' adding that marrying him was 'a very, very easy decision'.

Lawrence's First Love

At the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York in May 2024, Lawrence joked about her first love. While criticising former US vice president Mike Pence's stance on conversion therapy, she recalled attempting to change the sexuality of a man she loved.

'In fact, I was in love with a homosexual, it was my first love. I tried to convert him for years but now I know conversion therapy doesn't work,' she said, then directed a pointed joke at Pence regarding his alleged view of the practice.
