It takes plenty to stand out at the Met Gala, but Sabrina Carpenter managed exactly that by turning cinema into couture. Rather than simply drawing inspiration from a classic film, the singer arrived wearing a custom Dior gown wrapped in actual film strips featuring scenes from the 1954 Audrey Hepburn movie Sabrina.
The striking Dior creation instantly became one of the evening's biggest talking points, blending Old Hollywood glamour with high fashion in a way few guests could match. By quite literally wearing scenes from an iconic film, Carpenter proved that fashion can tell a story just as powerfully as the silver screen.
The Hollywood Film Behind the Dress
Carpenter's unforgettable look was designed by Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson, who created a gown unlike anything else seen on the famous Met Gala steps. The slit tulle dress was covered in rhinestone film strips displaying stills from Billy Wilder's 1954 romantic comedy Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden.
Instead of using prints or embroidered references, the design embraced the film itself. The result was a look that felt less like a traditional gown and more like a wearable tribute to one of Hollywood's most celebrated classics.
Every Detail Celebrated Old Hollywood
The cinematic theme continued well beyond the dress itself. Carpenter completed the ensemble with a sparkling headpiece featuring more images from the film, including a central pendant displaying the original Sabrina title card.
Her softly curled Old Hollywood hairstyle matched the vintage inspiration perfectly, creating a timeless appearance that echoed Audrey Hepburn's elegance while still feeling fresh and modern. The overall styling blended classic glamour with contemporary fashion, making the tribute feel thoughtful rather than theatrical.
The Sparkling Finishing Touches
While the dress naturally drew most of the attention, Carpenter's jewellery elevated the look even further. She wore an impressive selection of Chopard pieces from the Haute Joaillerie collection, including diamond earrings, rings and two spectacular white gold necklaces adorned with more than 100 carats of diamonds combined.
She finished everything with black Christian Louboutin platform heels. The sparkling accessories complemented the shimmering film strips without distracting from the gown's unique storytelling concept.

Another Milestone for Sabrina Carpenter
The Met Gala invitation reflected just how quickly her career has grown following the huge success of her Short n' Sweet era. Weeks before the event, she had been headlining Coachella, yet she arrived in New York as one of the Met Gala's key faces alongside fellow committee members including Lena Dunham, Misty Copeland, Teyana Taylor and A'ja Wilson.
It was Carpenter's fourth Met Gala appearance. She first attended in 2022 wearing Paco Rabanne before returning in 2024 in Oscar de la Renta and in 2025 in a dramatic Louis Vuitton look designed by Pharrell Williams.

Looking Back at the Original 'Sabrina'
The inspiration behind Carpenter's gown carries its own place in Hollywood history. Released in 1954, Sabrina earned several Academy Award nominations and won Best Costume Design for Edith Head.
However, fashion historians have long recognised Hubert de Givenchy for creating many of Audrey Hepburn's most memorable outfits for the film, including the famous 'Sabrina dress' that became one of cinema's defining fashion moments.
By building her Met Gala look around actual film strips from the classic, Carpenter honoured not only Hepburn's timeless style but also the lasting relationship between cinema and couture.
A Perfect Fit for the Met Gala Theme
This year's Met Gala celebrated the exhibition 'Costume Art' with the dress code 'Fashion Is Art'. While many guests interpreted the brief through paintings, sculpture or abstract design, Carpenter approached it from a different angle.
Her Dior creation demonstrated that film is also an art form worthy of celebration. Rather than simply wearing a beautiful gown, she arrived carrying the story of an iconic movie with her, transforming fashion into a living piece of cinematic history.
