Scarlett Johansson has revealed the surprisingly speedy beauty routine behind her effortless Hollywood glow, and it takes just two minutes and 36 seconds.
The 41-year-old actress says she has little interest in spending hours working through an elaborate skincare regime, particularly while juggling a demanding career and life with her two children. Instead, her beauty philosophy is refreshingly simple: use fewer products and make sure every one earns its place.
Johansson shared the details in an interview with Coveteur, where she opened up about her skincare habits, beauty rules and the 10-minute ritual she uses when she finally gets a moment to herself.
Scarlett Johansson Says Less Is More With Her Beauty Routine
For someone whose career has made her a fixture on red carpets, Johansson's approach is strikingly low-maintenance.
Asked about her beauty ethos, she explained: 'My beauty philosophy, especially at this stage of my life, is do more with less.'
She added: 'I don't have time for an 18-step routine, and my skin is so sensitive that I really focus on each product doing what it's supposed to do. And I'm out the door in two minutes and 36 seconds.'
That two-minute-36-second admission is perhaps the clearest insight into how Johansson approaches beauty. Rather than treating a lengthy routine as essential, she concentrates on products that work for her sensitive skin.
And she is not afraid to cut steps she considers unnecessary.
When presented with a choice between serum, toner and moisturiser, Johansson immediately singled out toner for elimination.
'Kill toner. Toner is not a good step for me. I've already cleansed my skin, I don't need to dry it out again,' she said.
She was considerably more enthusiastic about serum, describing her love for The Outset serum, while calling cleanser 'tried and true'.
The actress also revealed the product she always keeps in her bag: The Outset Botanical Barrier Rescue Balm. It has become something of a family favourite, with Johansson saying both she and her children use it.
Her 10-Minute Beauty Reset Comes After the Kids Are in Bed
While Johansson can apparently complete her everyday routine in less than three minutes, she does make time for a longer beauty ritual when circumstances allow.
Her preferred reset comes after she has got her busy household settled for the evening.
'If I can get everybody situated and then throw on our clay mask and take 10 minutes to just sit in the bath, chill, and read a book or even just zone out and do some online shopping. I love that,' she said.
The actress specifically mentioned using The Outset's Purifying Blue Clay Mask during this 10-minute pause, turning what could be an ordinary skincare step into a rare moment of downtime.
For Johansson, the appeal is not simply the mask itself. It is the chance to stop.
'I think just taking even like 10 minutes to throw a mask on and zone out, I appreciate,' she said.
That distinction makes her beauty philosophy particularly relatable. Her everyday routine is about speed and efficiency, while her 10-minute reset is about creating a small pocket of calm.
Johansson also revealed that her earliest beauty inspiration came from her older sister, who introduced her to makeup from brands including Bobbi Brown and MAC. She has since developed a very different philosophy of her own: rather than endlessly adding steps, she prefers to strip her routine back to what she genuinely needs.
And perhaps that is the real secret behind her effortless glamour. For Johansson, looking polished does not appear to be about spending more time in front of the mirror, it is about knowing what works, eliminating what does not and making even 10 quiet minutes count.
