Warner Bros. recently confirmed that the Golden Globe-winning actress Anya Taylor-Joy will portray Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The film is slated to hit cinemas on 17 December 2027. While the casting announcement may have surprised some fans, others had a very different reaction: wait, wasn't she already an elf?

With her ethereal features, otherworldly beauty, and a wardrobe that frequently looks like it was hand-sewn by couture pixies in an enchanted forest, Taylor-Joy has spent years serving Middle-earth energy. Long before she was cast as King Thranduil's trusted agent, she was unknowingly building a portfolio of looks that seem tailor-made (or Taylor-made) for Tolkien's universe.

From flowing gowns and celestial styling to windswept golden hair that would make half the elves of Rivendell jealous, these photos prove one thing: Anya Taylor-Joy wasn't just cast as Seren. She was born for it.

1. The Birth of a Floral Fairy

Posted for her birthday in April, this dreamy floral look combines flowing platinum hair, delicate blossoms, and enough fairy-core aesthetics to convince half of Middle-earth that she was simply photographed in her natural habitat. At an elven celebration, of course.

2. Winter Queen of the Woodland Realm

Pre-Seren, Anya Taylor-Joy was already dressing like she had diplomatic business in Middle-earth. This winter-sky-blue Dior creation combines sculptural elegance with fairy-tale softness. As per usual, the actress' signature platinum tresses add an ethereal glow. Thanks to the flowing silhouette, panelled details, and dreamlike photography, the image may be confused for a behind-the-scenes look at The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum rather than a backstage TIFF OOTD. Plus, the pop of colour courtesy of her red-bottomed stilettos exude strong cherries-in-the-snow energy.

3. An Elf Was Clearly Loading

We knew Anya Taylor-Joy was hiding her wings! If Seren ever attended a royal gathering in the Woodland Realm, this look could easily be her outfit of choice. Featuring soft pleated panels that resemble unfolding wings, the white mini dress transforms Anya Taylor-Joy into something between a swan princess and an elven noblewoman. The contrast between the dramatic couture silhouette and the everyday cinema setting only makes the image feel more magical.

4. Seren in Combat Mode

Seren may be an elf, but that doesn't mean she's made entirely of flowers and moonlight. This dramatic black Dior look she donned at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival showcases a sharper side of Anya Taylor-Joy's fantasy aesthetic. Topped off with slicked-back hair, bold red lips, and Tiffany & Co. jewellery, the ensemble succeeds in delivering a darker aesthetic without losing the dreamy essence of her signature style.

5. Foreshadowing the Archer?

At the 2024 Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiere, the actress stunned in a gold couture ensemble adorned with arrows from head to hip. The jawdropping piece was the pinnacle of warrior symbolism meets high fashion, making her appear ready for both a royal banquet and a battlefield. With promotional footage already teasing Seren wielding a bow and arrow, the outfit now feels strangely prophetic. If this wasn't foreshadowing or manifestation, it certainly makes a compelling case for it.

6. Captain of the King's Guard

Not every elf spends their days frolicking through flower fields. This striking black leather look delivers a more formidable side of Anya Taylor-Joy's fantasy aesthetic. With its armour-like construction, metallic detailing, and sleek silhouette, the ensemble feels perfectly suited for an elite warrior and for the cover of a magazine. If Seren ever needed an outfit for tracking enemies through Middle-earth, this might already be hanging in her wardrobe.

7. A Dream Come True

While the breathtaking reimagination of the 1949 Dior Venus dress looked worthy of Middle-earth royalty, the real story was standing beside her. Years before red carpets, there was a promise made by a 12-year-old girl to her father. Fast forward to her successful acting career, Anya Taylor-Joy kept it, turning one of Hollywood's biggest nights into something far more personal and memorable.

Before thanking Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Tiffany & Co, her Instagram caption opened with: 'A dreamy moment. At 12 I promised my dad that if I was invited to the Oscars one day, I would take him.. 🥹'

Full of gratitude🐚

8. The Water Lily of Paris

Wearing a blush-pink satin gown by a pond of blooming water lilies, Anya Taylor-Joy looked like a mythical creature who had emerged from the water to attend Paris Fashion Week. The liquid sheen of the fabric mirrored the pond behind her, while the soft petal-inspired draping transformed the entire look into a human-sized flower. So, in case you could not spot her at first glance, she's the biggest flower in the foreground.

For the 2025 Governors Awards, Anya Taylor-Joy uploaded this dreamy portrait. Soft lighting highlighted her luminous complexion, striking eyes, and delicate features. Adding to the glow, her brilliant necklace provided just the right amount of sparkle. If fairy beauty were a language, Anya is clearly fluent.

10. A Fairytale Love Story

Before she was cast as Seren, Anya Taylor-Joy was already living out a fantasy romance parallel to fairytale lore. Standing across from husband Malcolm McRae beneath a veil of soft tulle and shimmering embellishments, the actress looked like an Elven princess stepping into her own happily-ever-after.
