Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are trending again, but don't worry, it isn't fueled by a lip-reading rumour this time.

The two stars have officially been cast in Not Alone, a new animated feature from Illumination, marking Chalamet's voice acting debut and Gomez's latest venture into film. The announcement comes two years after they found themselves at the centre of viral Golden Globes speculation.

The issue revolved around a whispered exchange between Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Keleigh Sperry, sparking widespread hearsay of behind-the-scenes tension involving Chalamet and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.

Now, with both actors set to lead an alien-themed adventure, the reunion is giving fans something entirely different to talk about. This time, it's for something a little more out of this world.

From Golden Globes Gossip to Big Screen Reunion

Before Not Alone brought Chalamet and Gomez back into the same headline, the pair had already starred in a 2019 rom-com titled A Rainy Day in New York. Come 2024, they found themselves linked through a very different kind of viral moment.

At the 2024 Golden Globes, fans flooded social media with speculation after Gomez was seen whispering to Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry during a commercial break. Lip-reading theories quickly took over, claiming the interaction involved Chalamet and Jenner.

The internet ran with the speed of light around the narrative, fueling rumours of tension between the artists. According to the rumour mill, Gomez asked to take a photo with Chalamet, but his girlfriend declined the request, allegedly prompting the 'Calm Down' singer to relay the event to Swift and Sperry.

However, the speculation proved to have a short shelf life, as Chalamet later shut it down. The actor clarified that there was no conflict and that everyone involved was on good terms. Despite that, the moment remained one of the most talked-about pop culture mysteries of the night.

Now, two years later, Gomez and Chalamet are reuniting to lend their voices to a couple of extraterrestrials who are adept at their jobs yet alien to the concept of love.

A Closer Look at 'Not Alone': Aliens, Awkward Romance, and an All-Star Cast

Set to land in cinemas in April 2027, Not Alone features Chalamet as Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who prefers solitude. Gomez stars opposite him as Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist working on a groundbreaking plant-powered rocket.

The story follows the unlikely pair as they prepare for a historic launch, only to have their plans disrupted by three mischievous alien fugitives seeking refuge. As chaos envelops the plot, the film offers sci-fi adventure with an offbeat romance between two characters who are great at their crafts and terrible at love.

The film also boasts a supporting cast with just as much star muscle, including Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, Jamie Demetriou, and Brett Goldstein, alongside Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.

With Illumination behind the project (the studio responsible for Despicable Me and Minions), expectations are already high for a melange of laughs and love. The synopsis of the animated film seems to promise a cosmic fairytale about how great minds can build rocket ships, but falling in love without stumbling? Now, that is a job for the heart.
