Travis Kelce once said the word 'no' turns him on, and the resurfaced podcast clip has the internet raising its eyebrows. The clip comes from Kelce's September 2021 appearance on comedian Adam Ray's About Last Night podcast. During a quick-fire portion of the interview, Ray asked the Kansas City Chiefs star to name his least favourite word. Kelce's answer was simply 'No,' before he added, 'Probably a common one, huh?'
Then came a different question. When Ray asked Kelce what turns him on, the football player repeated the exact same answer: 'No.' Kelce laughed before quickly clarifying, 'I'm kidding, that was creepy.' Five years later, the internet appears inclined to agree with at least that last part.
Travis Kelce's 'No' Answer Comes Back to Haunt Him
The exchange has found a new audience amid renewed scrutiny of Kelce's past comments, with a Reddit post sharing the clip attracting thousands of upvotes. Much of the criticism centred on what using 'no' as the punchline implied about consent.
Kelce's immediate acknowledgement that the joke was 'creepy' also complicated the discussion. He did not double down on the answer during the interview and explicitly said he was kidding. However, recognising the implication seconds later did not necessarily make the original joke funny for viewers. Another commenter appeared simply exhausted by the discourse surrounding Kelce, writing, 'So tired of men. So tired of him. So tired of Taylor swift.'
The Clip Originally Aired in 2021
The resurfaced footage isn't a recent interview. Kelce appeared on Episode 613 of About Last Night, which was released in September 2021, years before his relationship with Taylor Swift made him an even bigger part of mainstream celebrity culture.
The roughly hour-and-a-half conversation covered more ordinary territory, including Kelce's NFL career, his college years, draft experience, brother Jason Kelce, Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes, and his charity work.
It was the brief quick-fire exchange that returned to haunt his reputation years later. The timing isn't exactly helping Kelce, either. The podcast clip has reappeared while some of his old remarks and online activity are getting another look. Recently, people reportedly caught his Instagram account liking a controversial Saturday Night Live monologue from Shane Gillis, wherein he made a generalised, misogynistic comment about women dressing like 'whores' at the gym. Old posts commenting on women's appearances have also been pulled back into the conversation.
The Internet Isn't Laughing This Time
The latest Reddit discussion expanded beyond the original joke, with commenters debating Kelce's public persona, his past comments, and even his marriage to Swift. One of the most popular reactions offered a particularly brutal assessment of the couple: 'They're perfect for each other (derogatory).' The remark proved so popular that variations of it spread through the thread and even inspired a new community flair.
Another Redditor didn't shy away from expressing her immoveable opinion on the athlete: 'He's always been a sh*t person. His relationship with Taylor didn't change my opinion on him.'
'Lack of consent isn't a turn on or something to joke about,' another comment read, evidently emphasising that some topics are not made to be laughing matters. The resurfaced clip demonstrates that sometimes recognising a joke crossed a line doesn't stop the internet from remembering that you told it. Five years later, 'no' may still be Kelce's least favourite word, but judging by the reaction this clip is getting, it certainly isn't winning him many yeses.
