Donald Trump left little room for subtlety when he praised Nicki Minaj's figure during a Michigan campaign rally, making a crude remark about the rapper before admitting he hoped she had not been offended. The moment drew cheers from the crowd, but online commenters had rather different things to say, with one joking that their president was a 'gooner.'

Minaj, who has become a vocal Trump supporter, had travelled with him aboard Air Force One before appearing at the event in Port Huron on Sunday, 25 October. What was meant to be a political appearance supporting Republican candidates took an unexpected turn when the president shifted his attention from the campaign to the musician's backside.

Crude Remark At Rally

Speaking at McMorran Place Arena, Trump told the crowd, 'By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj. That's hard to miss.' He then asked Minaj to stand up as the audience cheered, turning the personal compliment into one of the most striking moments of the event.

The rapper wore a gold-coloured Gucci-branded suit and joined Trump to encourage support for Republican candidates ahead of the US midterm elections. Although the comment was delivered in front of an enthusiastic audience, its explicit wording quickly gave social media users something else to discuss beyond the campaign.

Trump Hopes She Is Not Offended

Trump appeared to recognise that his remark might not land as intended, briefly interrupting himself before trying to return to his speech. 'Okay, I'm going to get back to my... I'm sorry,' he told the crowd, before adding: 'I hope Nicki wasn't insulted, but we love Nicki. She's been with us for a long time.'

The president later praised Minaj again as she left the stage, saying she had never looked more beautiful and describing her as smart. His comments offered an awkward contrast between his public appreciation for the rapper's political support and his decision to single out her body in front of the audience.

Another Comment About A Politician

The Minaj remark also followed an earlier appearance in which Trump discussed the backside of Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio. At a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, he said he had looked at Husted's backside and described studying the senator's body, adding that examining a man's body was not something he usually did.

The similarities between the two moments made the latest comment even more striking, particularly because both involved Trump drawing attention to a political ally's backside and body during a public speech. While the remarks were delivered in different settings, their unusual subject matter provided an obvious connection for people following the president's recent appearances.

Minaj Doubles Down On Support

Despite the awkward moment, Minaj used her appearance to make her political allegiance clear, telling the crowd she felt honoured to stand alongside Trump. 'I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again,' she said, reaffirming her backing for the president.

She also led chants supporting Trump and Republican candidates Mike Rogers and John James, describing the upcoming elections as a major turning point for the country. Her support has become increasingly visible since 2025, with the rapper previously praising the administration and discussing her reported selection for Trump's Gold Card programme.

Fans React To The Remark

Online reactions were considerably less uniform than the cheers heard at the rally, with some users mocking Trump's choice of words and others questioning Minaj's decision to stand beside him. One commenter wrote, 'My president is a gooner lmaoo can't make this up', using a slang term commonly associated with obsessive sexual interest.

Others were more critical, with one user asking why Minaj was allowing the interaction when she had a husband, while another questioned what she gained from an appearance they viewed as humiliating. These were individual reactions rather than evidence of a wider consensus, and Minaj did not publicly indicate that she had taken offence at Trump's remark.

A Political Appearance Turns Personal

The rally took place as Michigan prepared for closely watched midterm contests that could help determine control of Congress, giving Minaj's endorsement a clear political purpose. Trump also attacked Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed during his speech, making the event a mix of campaign messaging, celebrity support and provocative personal commentary.

For Minaj, the appearance reinforced her commitment to Trump at a time when her political alignment continues to attract attention from fans and critics alike. For the president, however, his own admission that she might be insulted added another unexpected layer to a rally that had already taken an unusual turn.
