Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's media company, Archewell Productions, has reportedly cut its production staff as questions grow over the future of its projects with Netflix. The changes come as the couple faces new challenges in Hollywood after changes to their business deals and mixed responses to some of their screen projects.
The reported staff cuts affect production teams behind shows linked to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including With Love, Meghan and Harry & Meghan. However, the full number of jobs affected has not been confirmed, and neither the future of every project nor the company's long-term plans have been made clear.
Archewell Faces Staff Cuts
Archewell Productions has reportedly reduced its team over the past 12 to 18 months, leaving only a small number of employees at its Los Angeles office, according to a report published on Thursday, 15 October. The reported changes have raised fresh questions about the company's ability to manage several projects at once. However, there is no public confirmation of the exact number of staff members affected.
The cuts come as Harry and Meghan continue to build their careers outside the British royal family, having stepped back from their senior royal roles in 2020. Their production company was created to develop films, documentaries and television shows for audiences around the world. Since then, the couple has worked on projects covering their own lives, sport, food and other topics.
The reported staff changes also follow broader changes to the couple's business plans. In 2025, Archewell's deal with Netflix changed from a wider agreement to a first-look deal, which gives the streaming service the chance to consider projects before they are offered elsewhere. The change did not mean that all work between the two sides had ended.
Netflix Deal Faces Questions
Harry and Meghan first signed a major deal with Netflix in 2020, after leaving their roles as senior working royals. Their 2022 documentary series, Harry & Meghan, became a major success for the streaming service, drawing strong early viewing figures. Netflix said the series received 23.4 million views in its first four days.
However, later projects did not all reach the same level of attention. Meghan's lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, featured cooking, gardening and ideas for hosting guests, while Polo explored the sport and the people who play it. Although these shows added to the couple's growing list of work, questions have continued about which projects will return and which new ideas will reach viewers.
The future of their Netflix work remains uncertain, but the partnership has not been publicly declared over. Netflix confirmed in August 2025 that Archewell Productions had moved to a multi-year, first-look deal covering its film and television projects. The company also said at the time that more work was in development, showing that plans for new content were still active.
Future Projects Remain Unclear
One project that has drawn attention is Meet Me at the Lake, a planned film based on Carley Fortune's bestselling novel. The story was among the projects linked to Archewell's work with Netflix, but a confirmed release date has not been announced. Until further details are shared, viewers cannot know when or whether the film will reach the screen.
The company has also been linked to other projects, including a planned series based on Jasmine Guillory's novel The Wedding Date. Such projects show that the couple's production plans have included stories beyond their own lives. Still, development does not always lead to a finished film or series, and no release should be treated as certain without an official update.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan have continued to pursue work outside television production. Meghan's lifestyle brand, As Ever, has moved forward independently after Netflix ended its involvement in the business, while Harry remains active in charity work and other public projects. The reported production staff cuts add another challenge for Archewell, but they do not by themselves confirm that the company is closing or that every Netflix project has been cancelled.
