Prince William reportedly 'won't have Harry's name mentioned in his presence' as tensions between the royal brothers continue following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to Britain. The claim emerged on Tuesday, 13 October, as William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, increased their joint appearances and the Sussexes prepared for their own public outing.
An unnamed palace insider claimed the Prince of Wales remains angry about his younger brother's unexpected return from California in August and has not been in contact with him. Neither William nor Kensington Palace has publicly confirmed the allegation about Harry's name.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are due to visit Nottingham on Thursday, 15 October, for their first joint public engagement since moving back to the UK. The city also hosted their first joint outing since they announced their engagement in 2017.
Palace Insider Says William and Harry Remain Estranged
A palace source told royal correspondent Katie Nicholl that William was still upset by the Sussexes' relocation and that the move had briefly unsettled him and Catherine. 'He won't have Harry's name mentioned in his presence,' the insider claimed. The source also alleged the brothers had not spoken, though no independent verification of their private contact has been made.
The brothers' estrangement has been under scrutiny since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Subsequent public revelations, including Harry's 2023 memoir Spare, brought personal disputes within the family into the open. In a May 2025 interview, Harry said, 'I would love reconciliation with my family,' but no reunion with William has been announced.
Royal biographer Russell Myers offered another perspective on the Waleses' increased visibility, saying, 'They don't see life as a competition with the Sussexes.' Instead, he said William and Catherine were concentrating on their commitments and the causes they support. The couple's recent calendar offers a clearer picture of those commitments.
Kate Middleton and Prince William Return to Joint Engagements
On Friday, 9 October, William and Catherine visited Belfast to highlight Homewards, the homelessness prevention initiative launched through their Royal Foundation. They met young people and employers involved in a programme connecting those at risk of homelessness with sustainable work. The foundation says seven employers have recruited 21 young people through the Northern Ireland pilot.
Catherine, also known as Kate Middleton, wore a green Emilia Wickstead tartan skirt, an ivory Knatchbull blouse and a long Catherine Walker coat for the visit. The appearance followed the couple's 22 September outing at the London premiere of Tom Cruise's film Digger, where she wore a purple Jenny Packham gown and historic royal jewellery. The two engagements put both her public work and fashion choices back in the spotlight.
William is also preparing for the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai on 17 November, part of a two-day environmental summit. Catherine could accompany him, according to royal commentators, but Kensington Palace has not confirmed her participation. The event will award £1 million to five environmental projects.

Harry and Meghan's Nottingham itinerary is expected to include a local food bank, where Meghan will reunite with women from London's Hubb Community Kitchen, alongside visits to the Community Recording Studio and Epic Partners, which support young people and local communities. Their first joint visit since returning to Britain comes nearly nine years after they greeted crowds in the city as a newly engaged couple. Harry has continued support initiatives including the Invictus Games while Meghan develops her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
Their latest engagements will not mark a return to official duties on behalf of King Charles III. The Sussexes stopped serving as working royals in 2020 and remain outside that arrangement despite moving back to Britain. For now, both couples are resuming public-facing work, while the reported divide between William and Harry remains unresolved.
