Blake Lively really knows how to create a Met Gala moment. Along with her dramatic gown, there was a surprisingly personal detail that quickly stole the spotlight: a Judith Leiber clutch inspired by her children's artwork.
What made the accessory even more fascinating was the fact that it wasn't created purely for celebrity exclusivity. Fans can now order their own version online, provided they are ready for the luxury price tag.
Blake Lively Returns to the Met Gala
The 2026 Met Gala theme, Fashion Is Art, practically felt designed for Lively. Known for turning the annual fundraiser into her personal couture runway, the actor returned this year in a jaw-dropping archival Atelier Versace gown that blended old-school glamour with theatrical flair.
According to Vogue, the dress came from Atelier Versace's Spring 2006 archive and drew inspiration from Venetian Rococo paintings and Baroque architecture.
The gown featured pastel embellishments in peach, lilac, coral, and soft gold tones, that created an almost painted effect under the lights. Structured hip detailing mirrored the curves often seen in Baroque churches, while the enormous train flowed behind her in sunset shades that looked straight out of an oil painting.
Naturally, the look came with maximum drama. The updated archival design reportedly included a four-metre train added specifically for the gala.
The Crystal-Covered Clutch by Judith Leiber
As striking as the Versace gown was, the accessory carried the real emotional punch of the evening.
Lively paired the couture look with a custom Judith Leiber minaudière decorated with artwork created by her four children — James, Inez, Betty and Olin — whom she shares with husband Ryan Reynolds.
At first glance, the bag looked like another sparkling luxury accessory. Up close, though, the colourful crystal designs revealed something far more personal. The children's original drawing had been transformed into intricate crystal patterns across the bag's surface.
Judith Leiber's chief creative officer Jana Matheson explained that they chose a clutch with a four-sided design so that each child's artwork could appear on its own individual panel. Hand-set crystals were then used to recreate the drawings in couture form.
Custom Clutch Now Available Online
But the most interesting part? The idea is no longer exclusive to Blake Lively or any celebrities.
Following the huge online reaction to the Met Gala look, Judith Leiber confirmed that shoppers can now order a bespoke version of the same clutch through the brand's website. The luxury label is offering a 'Children's Artwork Rectangle Dome' bag inspired directly by Lively's design.
The process allows customers to submit their own children's drawings or paintings, which are then transformed into crystal-covered artwork on the structured handbag.
Of course, couture-level craftsmanship comes at a couture-level price. The custom bag costs around £7,500 based on the listed $9,995 price tag. Each piece is handcrafted in Italy, requires more than 100 hours of work and features over 10,000 hand-set crystals.
Production takes about two months once the crystal rendering is approved by the customer. So yes, it is extravagant, but that is exactly the point.
Fashion, but Make It Personal
Part of what made the accessory stand out was how personal it felt compared with the usual Met Gala spectacle. Amid towering gowns, archival couture and heavily curated fashion references, Lively carried something rooted in everyday family life.
And in many ways, her bag perfectly captured the spirit of this year's Fashion Is Art theme. It blurred the line between sentimental artwork and couture craftsmanship, and did it in a way that felt genuinely personal.
Blake Lively's 2026 Met Gala look may have delivered all the glamour expected from a major red carpet return, but it was the heartfelt detail behind her sparkling Judith Leiber clutch that truly got people talking.
And now, thanks to Judith Leiber, anyone with a generous enough budget can turn their own family artwork into a crystal-covered fashion statement too.
