Rick and Evie O'Connell are finally back, and fans have one very important question: Are mum and dad still happily married? Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have reunited on the London set of The Mummy 4, and new behind-the-scenes photos are giving longtime fans heart eyes over the fictional couple's unparalleled chemistry.
The actors were photographed together on Wednesday, 14 October, marking their first shared set appearance since filming began in September. Fraser, 57, looked every bit the returning adventurer in a brown suede-style jacket, green checked shirt, and jeans. Looking like time barely touched her beauty, Weisz, 56, brought Evelyn's signature elegance in a fitted burgundy skirt suit with a black belt. In one particularly heartwarming photo, the pair smile and hold hands. That better indicates they're still married, or the fandom will be very disappointed.
The reunion comes 25 years after their last film together in the franchise, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. Although the upcoming sequel's storyline remains under wraps, fans are already hoping Hollywood didn't work its dark magic to untie that knot for Rick and Evie. After surviving ancient curses, villains that won't stay dead, and more than a few near-death experiences, surely these two deserve a happily ever after?
Fans Are Checking the Wedding Rings
The photos quickly drew hordes of excited fans on Reddit, where they celebrated the reunion while keeping a close eye on Rick and Evie's relationship status. After all, the only thing scarier than all those mummies is the O'Connells breaking up.
'God, I can tell just looking at these pic that the chemistry is still there,' one fan wrote. Another hoped the couple still enjoys a happy life together, frustrated that sequels bring back beloved characters only to make their lives miserable.
Others were more concerned about a surprise divorce. One commenter hoped the film would avoid separating Rick and Evie between instalments, while another insisted the characters deserved their happily ever after.
Fortunately, eagle-eyed fans may have spotted a promising clue. 'They're wearing wedding rings,' one Reddit user pointed out, while another noticed the couple holding hands. Neither detail officially confirms their marital status in the new film, but it's certainly enough to keep the romantics hopeful.
Rick and Evie Return
Fraser and Weisz first brought Rick and Evelyn to life in 1999's The Mummy and returned for The Mummy Returns (2001). Fraser later starred in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), with Maria Bello taking over Evelyn. While the actress certainly brought the character to life, viewers couldn't help but miss the original Evie, who once drunkenly said, 'What is a place like me doing in a girl like this?'
The fourth instalment reunites the original pair, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and screenwriter David Coggeshall. Returning cast members include Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O'Connor, while Michael Johnston and Numan Acar are among the new additions.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 15 October 2027, with the plot still under wraps. For now, the first reunion photos have given fans something worth celebrating: Rick and Evie are back, and they'll probably have to battle another ancient curse for the nth time. The mummies can rise, the curses can return, and the adventure can get as chaotic as it likes. Just leave Mum and Dad's marriage intact.
