Tobey Maguire has sparked an unexpected celebrity debate after reportedly officiating his ex-wife Jennifer Meyer's wedding to her new husband, Geoff Ogunlesi. The Spider-Man star's involvement has sparked a wider conversation about what a healthy relationship between former spouses can look like.

For some, Maguire's involvement is a heartwarming example of putting family first. For others, seeing an ex-husband take such a prominent role in his former wife's big day is a little harder to understand.

Tobey Maguire Officiates Ex's Wedding

The actor officiated Jennifer Meyer's wedding to Geoff Ogunlesi on Saturday, 10 October, at the luxurious resort in Hawaii. Meyer, a renowned jewellery designer whose pieces have been worn by numerous Hollywood stars, married Ogunlesi, a music executive who is the son of Nigerian billionaire Adebayo Ogunlesi.

Maguire stood at the centre of the proceedings, reading from a piece of paper as Meyer and Ogunlesi exchanged vows and kissed. The bride wore a strapless white wedding gown with a long veil, while the groom opted for a black suit and bow tie.

The ceremony was a star-studded affair. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos, Courteney Cox, Kate Hudson and Rachel Zoe were among the reported guests.

The celebration also brought together the couple's blended family. Meyer and Maguire's two children were part of the occasion, alongside the baby daughter Meyer and Ogunlesi welcomed earlier this year. The wedding came just weeks after Meyer and Maguire's divorce was finalised, nearly a decade after they announced their separation in 2016.

From Marriage to Friendly Exes

Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer married in 2007 after dating for several years, building a family together while the actor's Hollywood career continued to flourish. They share two children, daughter Ruby and son Otis, and announced their separation in October 2016 after nine years of marriage.

At the time, the former couple indicated that they remained committed to raising their children together. In the years that followed, they maintained a connection through family occasions, showing that the end of their marriage did not necessarily mean the end of their relationship as co-parents.

Meyer filed for divorce in October 2020, nearly four years after the pair announced their split. But their marriage didn't officially come to an end until September 2026, bringing their lengthy divorce proceedings to a close.

'Sweet or Weird': Fans Weigh In

The news has divided online commenters, with some struggling to understand why a former husband would officiate his ex-wife's wedding. One sceptical commenter described the situation as 'a weird relationship dynamic'.

Others questioned the timing of the divorce, with one person writing: 'The only thing weird part of this is that their divorce was only finalized last month. They'd been separated for so long, was she just staying legally married to stay on his insurance lol?'

Yet, not everyone saw a problem with it. Supporters described the gesture as a sign that former partners can remain close after a marriage ends.

'Wait I actually think this is sweet?' one commenter wrote. Another said: 'I love when former spouses love each other as friends/family.'

A different commenter shared their own experience, explaining that they would also officiate their ex-husband's wedding because they had a better relationship after divorce and wanted to maintain a positive family environment for their children.
