A video showing a Burger King drive-through employee wearing what appeared to be blackface makeup drew criticism online after a customer questioned the worker about her appearance and her reasons for darkening her face.

The recording circulated on social media on 31 October 2026, coinciding with Halloween. The employee was filmed at a drive-through window wearing a Burger King uniform and headset while speaking to a customer recording from a vehicle. The footage shows the worker handling a transaction during the exchange.

Customer Questions Employee about Makeup

The customer challenged the employee over her appearance. During the exchange, the worker reportedly recalled being asked whether it was acceptable to wear the makeup and giving the response, 'As long as you have a good heart.' The video excerpt does not show the beginning of that earlier conversation.

The employee also said she wanted to be Black for the day. When the customer questioned whether she understood the experiences of Black people, the worker initially appeared to answer yes before correcting herself and acknowledging that she did not.

The customer continued challenging the reasoning behind the makeup. The worker remained at the service window throughout the visible portion of the exchange, and the video does not show a supervisor joining the conversation.

The footage does not independently establish whether the worker intended her appearance as a Halloween costume, whether anyone else at the restaurant approved it, or what happened before the customer began recording.

Facebook Video Circulates Online

Hollywood Unlocked reported that Facebook user Chevy Vs Man-Man shared the video on 31 October 2026. The footage later appeared in a Threads post by @lady_star_gem, carrying a @thesidewalkschool2 watermark. Neither account has been established as the original recorder.

The Threads post characterised the employee's appearance as blackface and criticised her explanation. Reposts prompted further objections from individual users, including questions about whether a manager had seen the makeup before the employee began serving customers.

Hollywood Unlocked reported that the Facebook poster subsequently shared a screenshot identifying the restaurant as a Burger King in Faribault, Minnesota. The location has not been independently verified. The worker's identity and employment status have also not been independently established.

Blackface History and Halloween Questions

Blackface has roots in 19th-century minstrel shows in the United States, where performers darkened their faces and used exaggerated stereotypes to ridicule Black people. Critics of the video objected to the appearance and rejected the suggestion that good intentions could make it acceptable.

Some social media users described the makeup as a Halloween costume because the clip circulated on Halloween, though the footage itself does not establish the makeup as part of a costume. The customer's questions focused on the difference between adopting a racial appearance for a day and understanding the lived experiences of Black people.

No Confirmed Company Response

No public response from Burger King, disciplinary action, or formal complaint has been independently confirmed. There is also no confirmed account of any action by the individual franchise operator. The worker's identity and employment status remain unverified.

The recording does not show how the interaction began or how the employee prepared for her shift. No independently verified statement from the worker or the original video-taker has provided further context about the circumstances behind the footage.
