The race to become the next James Bond has kept fans guessing since Daniel Craig stepped away from the iconic role, with Callum Turner among the names repeatedly tipped to succeed him. The British actor has remained a prominent contender in casting speculation, but his reported chances of becoming the next 007 have sparked mixed reactions.

While some believe Turner has the look to play the legendary British spy, others are questioning whether he has the charisma and screen presence to carry the franchise. Discussions about his potential casting have also brought his appearance under scrutiny, with some fans admitting they struggle to understand the enthusiasm surrounding him.

Is Callum Turner the Next James Bond?

Speculation surrounding Turner's possible casting intensified after reports suggested he was among the actors being considered for the next 007 film. According to The Sun, the actor had stepped down as a director of Twentytwo Films Ltd on 10 December 2025, suggesting it could be connected to the demands of playing Bond. The actor established the production company with his wife, Dua Lipa.

The report also claimed that screen tests for the upcoming film had taken place in Berkshire, adding to speculation that the casting process was nearing its final stages. Variety previously reported that Turner and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden appeared to be among the actors in the mix for the role, although representatives did not confirm their involvement.

Debate Over His Looks and Charisma

Despite the growing speculation, not everyone is convinced Turner would make a convincing Bond. Online reactions have ranged from questioning his appearance to criticising his acting and perceived lack of charisma.

One online critic found the contrast between his appearance and on-screen presence particularly interesting, writing: 'Fascinating that he's probably the most Bond-looking Bond in the history of the role but everyone thinks he's so aggressively dull and uninteresting that they're off-put by his casting'.

Another referenced his performance in Eternity, saying: 'I recently watched the Apple movie... and he was just so aggressively bland'. They also argued that Miles Teller, who played Turner's rival in the film, had more screen presence and came across as the more appealing romantic lead.

Others questioned the enthusiasm surrounding his possible casting, with one writing: 'I don't understand why they're forcing this dude on us. People act like he's hot when he isn't'. Another user was similarly unconvinced, commenting: 'Hmm, this would be an odd choice. He doesn't have the conventionally attractive look for bond'.

His Best-Known Screen Roles

Turner has built an acting career across different genres, with credits spanning romantic dramas, fantasy adventures and historical films. One of his best-known roles is Theseus Scamander in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022).

He also played Frank Churchill in the 2020 adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, and appeared opposite Shailene Woodley in the romantic drama The Last Letter From Your Lover (2021). In George Clooney's The Boys in the Boat (2023), Turner portrayed Olympic rower Joe Rantz.

His television work includes the BBC thriller The Capture and Apple TV+'s Second World War drama Masters of the Air, in which he played Major John 'Bucky' Egan. More recently, he starred alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller in the romantic comedy Eternity (2025).
