Cara Delevingne apparently didn't get the memo that a Hollywood gala requires a gown. If she did, she chose to reimagine it in leather.

The 34-year-old model and actress arrived at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles wearing a black leather Givenchy jumpsuit that swapped sweeping skirts and sparkling gowns for something tougher. Designed by Sarah Burton for Givenchy's Spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection, the look featured a sculpted, off-the-shoulder neckline, a fitted waist cinched with a slim belt, and voluminous trousers that fell loosely around her legs.

Delevingne kept her hands casually tucked into her pockets for several photographs, because nothing says black tie quite like looking as though you could also leave at any moment and hop onto a motorcycle. Her newly darkened haircut, complete with heavy bangs, crowned her ensemble with a hint of soft charm.

Cara Delevingne Makes Black Tie a Leather Affair

With Hollywood's biggest stars pulling out gowns for the Academy Museum Gala, Delevingne apparently decided there were already enough dresses in the room.

Since taking over the French fashion house, Burton has been interested in clothes that reveal just as much as they cover. For Spring/Summer 2026, she explored 'the strengths of women through feminine archetypes,' taking traditional tailoring apart, exposing skin, and replacing stiffness with something lighter and sexier.

By Fall/Winter 2026, Burton was still refusing to put women neatly into one box. Sharp tailoring appeared alongside softer draping, with Givenchy describing the collection as a reflection of the many different roles women move between in their lives.

Delevingne's jumpsuit seems to have taken that philosophy and added a little rock 'n' roll. Add the hands-in-pockets pose and Delevingne has officially set the bar higher for red carpet dressing. Honestly, why wrestle with a ball gown when you can show up looking like the glamorous final boss of a very expensive biker gang?

Fans Say the Givenchy Look Is So 'Her'

Fashion fans appeared to agree that Delevingne and the jumpsuit were particularly well matched. After photos of the Givenchy look circulated on Reddit, one commenter said it looked as though it had been 'made with her in mind.' Another declared that Delevingne wore it even better than the runway model, while others praised the combination of the leather outfit and her darker, shaggy hairstyle.

'Fits her like a glove!' another commenter wrote, adding that she made the ensemble look effortless. Considering Delevingne spent years walking runways herself, making a fresh-off-the-runway Givenchy look her own is hardly unfamiliar territory.

Hollywood Dresses Up for the Academy Museum Gala

Delevingne joined an A-list crowd at the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala on Saturday, 17 October. Held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, the event raised more than $14 million (£10.5 million) to support the museum's exhibitions, educational initiatives, and public programmes.

This year's gala honoured Charlize Theron with the Icon Award, filmmaker John Carpenter with the Luminary Award, and Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award. Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg, and Kate Capshaw co-chaired the event, while Taylor Swift closed the evening with a special performance.

With a guest list stacked with Hollywood heavyweights, standing out was no small assignment. Delevingne managed it without a train, sequins, or even a skirt. Sometimes all you need is leather, a killer haircut, and pockets.
