Collin Gosselin was pushed to confront his painful feelings about his estranged mother, Kate, during an explosive challenge on Special Forces: World's Toughest Test. The 22-year-old reality star was visibly overcome with emotion as an instructor urged him to channel his anger towards his mother during Thursday's 29 October episode.
The challenge required recruits to unleash their aggression before demonstrating their ability to regain control. But for Collin, the exercise became deeply personal when an instructor referenced his troubled relationship with Kate, 51, and encouraged him to use his feelings as motivation.
Collin Told To Channel His Rage Towards His Mother Kate
The challenge was designed to test the recruits' ability to find what the instructors described as 'controlled aggression'. DS Jason Fox explained that Special Forces operators must be capable of using extreme violence against an enemy before immediately regaining control of themselves.
'You have to go into the dark recesses of your mind and find what motivates you to kill someone who's trying to kill you,' Fox told the group. He added that the exercise was about being able to 'turn it on and off'.

Before Collin began, DS Q singled him out and encouraged him to draw on his unresolved feelings about Kate, from whom he has been estranged for years. 'This is your chance for revenge. Use that anger, use that rage,' the instructor told him.
Q then asked whether what Collin had experienced still hurt him, prompting the reality star to reply, 'Yes.' The instructor pushed him further, saying: 'I want you to go crazy right now. When you see red, that's your mom.'
Collin Says Kate Took Away His Childhood and Freedom
In a confessional, Collin explained why his relationship with Kate remained such a significant source of anger. He also made clear that his decision to join the programme was about reclaiming something he felt his mother had taken away.
'I'm here because my mother has taken a lot of things away from me, but this course is something she can't take away,' he said. He then added: 'She took away my childhood, she took away my freedom — and I have a lot of anger.'

When his turn came to complete the exercise, Collin appeared to throw himself into it, screaming as he unleashed a series of strikes against a training opponent. DS Billy encouraged him to give the challenge everything he had before eventually calling for him to stop.
The instructor then reminded the visibly exhausted recruit to breathe and explained that the exercise was an opportunity to release his pent-up emotions. 'That was your decompression there. To release all those demons. Now, it's done,' he told him.
Collin's Memoir Makes Fresh Allegations Against Kate
The emotional scenes come as Collin promotes his new memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, in which he makes further allegations about his upbringing in the Gosselin household. He alleges that Kate subjected him to years of mistreatment, including confining him in a basement room for approximately two years, which she has strongly denied.
He also recounts being sent to a behavioural health facility at the age of 11, claiming his mother visited him only once during his stay. Kate has disputed his account, previously saying that she visited when the facility deemed him stable enough to receive visitors.

In a 2023 Instagram statement, Kate said that 'all measures that were taken in our home were at the explicit recommendation of [Collin's] pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists'. She added that they were implemented to safeguard every member of the family, their friends and their pets.
Kate Gosselin's Claims Branded 'Categorically False'
The dispute has also spilled onto social media, where Kate has alleged that Collin had a history of violent behaviour, including incidents involving weapons and animals. She has maintained that his admission to a psychiatric facility was necessary for his safety and that of those around him.
A representative for Collin previously rejected allegations that he had harmed a family member or animal, describing the accusations as categorically false.
Kate shares Collin and seven other children with her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, with the family first becoming household names through the reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8. Kate also competed on the first season of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, although she was eliminated early in the competition.
Collin has previously spoken about wanting to redeem his family's name through his own appearance on the show. His latest challenge brought a much more personal battle into the spotlight, as he confronted the anger he says he has carried since childhood.
