Dior's handbags are getting a softer attitude. For Spring/Summer 2027, Jonathan Anderson has loosened up the French fashion house's accessories, introducing slouchier shoulder bags, elongated silhouettes and tactile designs alongside its more familiar structured styles.
The change is significant because Anderson has not simply discarded Dior's established codes. Cannage quilting, Dior hardware and the house's craftsmanship remain part of the collection. What changes is the way those signatures are used.
Alongside more structured designs, the new collection embraces softness, movement and texture. It marks another step in Anderson's evolution of Dior, bringing the house's recognisable language into a more relaxed wardrobe.
Dior's Structured Shapes Give Way To Softer Silhouettes
The clearest sign of the shift comes in the shapes themselves.
One of the new designs is a biker-inspired shoulder bag made from soft Cannage lambskin. Its relaxed silhouette is paired with oversized proportions and biker-style zips, while its curved front pocket recalls elements of the Dior Saddle Bag.
The result combines two very different ideas: the suppleness of a bag that naturally falls against the body and the sharper details traditionally associated with biker styling.
The collection also introduces more elongated shoulder bags, while a new mini bowler appears in Dior Cannage leather and ostrich, with CD hardware adding definition to its elongated shoulder straps.
That balance is central to Anderson's approach. The bags can appear relaxed without losing the visual markers that make them recognisably Dior.
The designer's wider Spring/Summer 2027 collection follows a similar principle, reworking established Dior signatures through more fluid proportions and a less formal sensibility.
Quilting and Dior Hardware Stay, But the Mood Is Different
While the silhouettes have softened, Anderson has kept plenty of Dior's most recognisable details.
Cannage quilting remains a key feature, while CD hardware and zips introduce definition to softer designs. Rather than removing the house codes, the collection places them against softer materials and more fluid shapes.
Texture becomes just as important. Some of the bags are deliberately tactile, featuring layers, fringe and pronounced surface treatments. A striking pink fringed design, for example, adds movement to the overall look as it swings while being carried.
The contrast between softness and structure runs throughout the collection. A bag may collapse against the body, but a zip or piece of Dior hardware can immediately restore a sense of definition.
That makes the new accessories feel less like a rejection of Dior's heritage and more like a reinterpretation of it.
From Silhouettes and Construction To Softer Direction
The effect puts greater focus on the relationship between the wearer and the handbag. Rather than focusing solely on maintaining a precise silhouette, movement, touch and everyday wear become part of the appeal.
It represents a softer direction for a house known for distinctive handbag silhouettes and construction.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Dior's luxury codes are still there, but they are being expressed through softer, more relaxed forms.
The new message is softer: a Dior bag can be quilted, crafted and recognisably luxurious while still slouching against the body, swinging with every step and looking better for being carried.
And perhaps that is the most intriguing part of Anderson's Dior: the next coveted bag may not be the one you carefully place on the table, but the one you actually want to carry everywhere.
