Heidi Klum arrived at her 25th annual Halloween party on 31 October inside a giant severed hand, reportedly five months in the making. What people ended up looking at was the shelf behind it.
Photographs from the workshop that built the piece went up on Instagram. Behind the artists sat a row of head casts and storage moulds, several of them labelled, and at least one wearing prosthetic makeup.

Those labels appear to belong to The Batman: Part II. Nobody involved has explained what is on that shelf.
What People Spotted on the Shelf
One cast, a Black man with heavy scarring around the mouth, was taken to be Brian Tyree Henry made up as Two-Face, the Gotham prosecutor Harvey Dent after half his face is destroyed. A second was read as Sebastian Stan, sitting beside a box marked 'Zsasz.' Others were labelled 'Owl' and 'Koch.'
Victor Zsasz is a serial killer from the comics. The Court of Owls is a secret society that has run through Batman stories for more than a decade. Koch is the surname of Sebastian Koch, a German actor in the cast.
'I kneeeew Stan had to be Zsasz!' one reader wrote. 'Everyone kept saying he was harvey dent but if that was true - why would he be bald af? Exactly.'

Why Batman Moulds Were Sitting There
Klum's hand was designed by Mike Marino, the prosthetic makeup artist who turned Colin Farrell into Oz Cobb for The Batman and for the television series that followed. Marino and his team won an Emmy for that work last year.
The two projects have nothing to do with each other, but they share a bench. Photograph a severed hand for the client and whatever else is on the shelves goes in the frame.
Sympathy ran high once people worked that out. 'Omg imagine their stomach dropping when someone pointed this out,' one reader wrote. 'I'd die.' Another was briefer: 'as a social media manager... I felt this in my SOUL.'

Not everyone took it at face value. 'I feel like most "accidental spoilers" are a marketing thing tbh,' one argued, 'they want to promote interest early on and what better way to get people's attention.'
What Had Already Been Announced
Matt Reeves confirmed the cast in May. Brian Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Charles Dance were all named then, without a word about who any of them were playing. Characters have been attached to some of them since, by reporting rather than by announcement. For Henry and Koch, not even that.
Stan is the knottiest case. He was widely reported to be playing Dent, and then the industry reporter Jeff Sneider said in June that he was down for Zsasz instead, with Henry taking Dent. The studio has confirmed neither. If the box beside his cast means what people think it means, the June report was the one that held up.
The film reaches cinemas on 18 February 2028, having already moved three times. Reeves stepped away in October for a family matter, and Steven Soderbergh came in to help complete principal photography.
Five Months for One Hand
Of course, none of these details should bury the costume. The hand is a scaled-up copy of Klum's own left one. The palm lines are hers, the nails match her manicure, and the ring finger carries enlarged versions of her engagement ring and wedding band. On that same finger, where the real one sits, is her tattoo reading 'Tom,' for her husband Tom Kaulitz.
She is severed at the wrist, her face visible just below it, and the tendons and bone are painted by hand. 'I looked at my hand and I thought, "Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,"' she said of the starting idea. It took five to six hours to get her into it, and she has said the weight is the hard part.
All that work, and the thing people are examining is a shelf in the background.
