Ugg x JW Anderson
Musician Blood Orange stars in the campaign Facebook/UGG

What happens when cosy Ugg boots meet the polished look of penny loafers? Designer Jonathan Anderson has an unexpected answer, combining the two familiar footwear styles in a new collaboration that gives classic boots and slippers a quirky makeover.

The Ugg x JW Anderson collection puts a playful spin on everyday footwear without straying too far from the designs shoppers already know. Featuring two styles, three colourways and musician Blood Orange as its campaign star, the collection is set to launch on 15 October.

How JW Anderson Reinvents Classic Uggs

The collection features the JW Anderson Loafer Boot and the JW Anderson Loafer, both combining Ugg's familiar shapes with details inspired by traditional penny loafers. Think rounded toes, saddle straps across the uppers and contrasting box stitching, all adding a more structured look to footwear usually associated with laid-back comfort.

The Loafer Boot reimagines Ugg's classic boot silhouette, while the Loafer gives the brand's Tasman slipper a fresh look. Instead of completely changing these familiar designs, Anderson adds details that make them look part cosy winter essential and part classic smart shoe.

It is an unexpected combination, especially for shoppers who usually associate loafers with tailored trousers and office wear rather than soft, casual footwear. The designs bring those two worlds together, giving fans a different way to wear styles that have become wardrobe staples.

Musician and producer Dev Hynes, better known by his stage name Blood Orange, fronts the campaign for the collaboration. Photographed by Zhenya and Tanya Posternak, the images show him in everyday settings, including relaxing at home and getting dressed.

New Collection Comes in Three Colours

The collection will arrive in three colourways: Chestnut, Khaki and Orange, offering options for shoppers who prefer understated shades as well as those who want something brighter. The JW Anderson Loafer Boot is priced at $400 (approximately £300), while the JW Anderson Loafer costs $300 (approximately £225). The conversions are not official UK prices as they may differ when the collection launches.

The collaboration is scheduled to launch on 15 October through the official Ugg and JW Anderson websites, selected brand boutiques and retailers including Selfridges, The Webster and Lane Crawford.

When Jonathan Anderson Keeps Experimenting

The new designs arrive as Anderson continues to make his mark across the fashion industry. He was appointed creative director of Dior in 2025 after spending 11 years at Loewe, while continuing to develop his own label, JW Anderson.

His namesake brand is known for reworking familiar wardrobe pieces with unusual shapes and playful details, making the loafer-inspired Ugg designs a natural extension of that approach. The partnership also adds to Ugg's series of collaborations that reinterpret its recognisable boots and slippers.

In September, Ugg unveiled a biker-inspired collection with designer Willy Chavarria, offering another take on its established footwear styles. The JW Anderson release follows a similar idea of using familiar silhouettes as a starting point for something different.

For anyone who finds traditional Ugg boots a little too predictable, the new collection offers a fresh alternative with a distinctive design detail. Whether shoppers prefer the taller boot or the slipper-inspired version, the penny loafer influence gives both styles an unusual look that stands out from the usual cosy footwear.
