Christian Louboutin has officially gone off the deep end. Fortunately, the French luxury footwear house seems to have found plenty of pearls, coral, and crystals along the way.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Louboutin trades dry land for an underwater fantasy, turning familiar heels and handbags into treasures recovered from a particularly fashionable shipwreck. Branching golden coral, iridescent finishes, oyster-inspired embellishments, and aquatic sparkle evoke a fairytale of mermaid tails.
The signature red soles are still very much present, of course. Even under the sea, some things refuse to go out of fashion.
Christian Louboutin Takes Mermaid-Core Underwater
During Paris Fashion Week, the ocean-inspired designs offered a closer look at Louboutin's more fantastical side. Golden coral branches appeared to grow organically across pumps, winding around transparent uppers and reaching towards the heels. Other designs featured delicate seashells, pearls and crystals arranged into elaborate underwater compositions.
One particularly theatrical pink pump combined shimmering embellishments with coral-like structures climbing around its silhouette. Another featured a translucent upper adorned with golden branches, creating the impression of marine life suspended in water. According to PAP Magazine, the collection's decorative details also included sea urchin-inspired spikes and pointed flats reminiscent of stingrays gliding across the ocean floor.
From Ocean Treasures to Showgirl Heels
The aquatic theme found its way beyond coral-encrusted stilettos. Pearl-covered bags, shell-inspired accents and accessories decorated with metallic spikes brought the ocean-floor aesthetic into handbag territory. Some designs looked more like precious objects discovered inside a treasure chest than everyday accessories.
Meanwhile, the house's famous La Pigalle silhouette explored several personalities, from understated beige versions to crystal-encrusted interpretations that fully embraced the collection's theatrical direction. While feathered wings may not be found in the ocean, the line also includes the winged Athenais design, worthy of a spot at a Grecian museum. These Louboutins might remind Greek mythology enthusiasts of Talaria, the winged shoes worn by Hermes, the messenger of the Olympian gods.
Louboutin also ventured beyond its marine inspirations with over-the-knee boots and showgirl-inspired heels, adding a decidedly cabaret-like attitude to the presentation. Elsewhere, zebra-print pony hair met suede on loafers and handbags, creating an unexpected contrast with the collection's shimmering underwater textures. As it seems, even mermaids deserve options when they're not attending an underwater ball.
Mermaid-Core Gets the Red Sole Treatment
The collection follows Louboutin's Eternal Youth presentation, which explored fantasy and fairytale-inspired designs. Rather than relying solely on oceanic colours, the collection explores the textures and shapes of marine life, from branching coral and rounded pearls to spiky sea urchins and delicate shells.
Yet beneath the elaborate decorations, the house's recognisable red soles remain a constant. The result is a collection where footwear becomes wearable fantasy, even if some of those crystal-covered heels look better suited to making an entrance than walking several city blocks.
Looking ahead to spring/summer 2027, the new Louboutin collection may hint at a bubbly trend as warmer weather returns. Ideal for the era of beaches and hours by the pool, the luxury house may be right about spring and summer being under the sea, not just under the sun. After all, given the mermaid essence of the collection, it might be easy to infer that Princess Ariel traded her voice for legs in the name of love andLouboutins.
