For Spring/Summer 2027 at Paris Fashion Week, Mugler moved from a soft, delicate mood to raw, nature-inspired energy. Creative director Miguel Castro Freitas delivered an animal-inspired collection with snake prints, faux fur, feathers, dramatic tailoring, and revealing cuts that drew attention to unexpected parts of the body.
Naturalia X is the third and final collection in Miguel Castro Freitas' A Trilogy of Glorified Clichés, a series revisiting key Mugler themes. In this final instalment, Freitas draws inspiration from nature, focusing on primal forms and the house's signature codes.
Animal motifs, exaggerated silhouettes, and sculptural details produced looks that moved between human, animal, and imaginative forms.

The direction further referenced founder Thierry Mugler's enduring interest in insects, animals, and fantasy through modern silhouettes, sculptural headpieces, and animal-inspired prints.
Vogue described the collection as an exploration of transformation, with Freitas blurring the boundaries between nature, technology and the body.
Snake Print, Fur and Feathers
A snakeskin hourglass dress combined a sharply defined silhouette with the collection's body-conscious focus, while other pieces used animal patterns to reinforce its untamed aesthetic.
One look featured a corseted dress with a back cut-out, highlighting the collection's direct approach to body-conscious fashion. Low-rise trousers emphasised the collection's focus on revealing the lower body.
Freitas expanded the animal theme by introducing texture alongside print.
The collection featured tactile pieces with faux fur and feathers that added movement, including a look that combined cheetah-print feathers with Mugler's signature flair for spectacle.
Garments constructed from synthetic hair added another distinct texture. Freitas combined these elements to balance tailored pieces with heightened glamour and deliberately wild qualities.

Mugler's tradition of reshaping the silhouette with sharply defined waists, corsetry, structured jackets, and exposed skin also appeared in the collection.
Some tailored pieces were cropped to reveal the area beneath the bust, with belts accentuating the waist. Other designs exposed the back and buttocks, drawing attention to less conventional parts of the body.
Burgundy and black latex reinforced Mugler's association with sensuality and body-focused design.
Alexis Stone Channels Mugler
The show also included a tribute to Mugler's late founder, Manfred Thierry Mugler, who died on 23 January 2022 at the age of 73.
British artist Alexis Stone attended the Paris show transformed into Manfred Thierry Mugler, using prosthetics, makeup, and silhouette adjustments to recreate the designer's likeness.

Stone sat in the front row with Thierry Mugler's husband, Krzysztof Leon Dziemaszkiewicz. According to Freitas, Dziemaszkiewicz appreciated the idea and believed Mugler himself would have enjoyed it.
The appearance also referenced Mugler's ongoing interest in reinvention, with Stone recreating the founder's image through prosthetic makeup as the brand reflected on its history.
Mugler's Previous Chapter
The Spring/Summer 2027 collection follows Freitas' Autumn/Winter 2026-27 collection, The Commander, which formed the second chapter of his trilogy.
In that collection, Freitas focused on another key aspect of Mugler's history: power dressing. The collection explored this theme with sharply structured silhouettes referencing historical tailoring and Mugler's distinctive approach to the body.
The runway featured signature shoulders, cinched waists, expressive curves, shearling, and metallic leathers. It drew on historical tailoring while developing Mugler's approach to power dressing.
The Commander followed Freitas' Spring/Summer 2026 debut, Stardust Aphrodite, which opened the trilogy by referencing Mugler's history of glamour, seduction, and cinematic femininity.
The trilogy moved from seduction to power dressing, ending with nature for SS/2027. The latest collection united Mugler's historic fascination with fantasy and transformation with Freitas' contemporary interpretation of these themes.
