Kim Kardashian has opened up about the years she spent away from serious dating before finding romance with Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton. The reality star said she felt no urgency to find another partner after her divorce from Kanye West, choosing instead to focus on herself, her children and her projects.
Speaking to The Times' Style Magazine, Kardashian said she was 'really single for five years' and that the period gave her space to focus on her own life. She said she 'didn't feel empty' and had no sense of urgency to find another partner.
Kim Kardashian Found Comfort in Being Single
Kardashian said she needed time after her marriage to West ended before she felt ready to become emotionally open to another person.
'I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself,' she said, explaining that she 'wasn't ready to open up'. She also said she was not actively thinking about finding a new relationship during that period.
That period gave Kardashian space to concentrate on her four children and the projects that mattered to her. She shares North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm with West.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West married in 2014, with their divorce finalised in 2022 after she filed in 2021. Their relationship and subsequent split played out publicly, making her decision to step away from dating particularly notable.
Instead of feeling like she needed a partner, Kardashian said she became comfortable with the freedom of being single.
She previously discussed the experience on The Kardashians, saying that people can become accustomed to their own routines while single. She noted that sharing a bed or even watching television with another person can feel less appealing once someone becomes comfortable doing things alone.
At the same time, Kardashian has described herself as a romantic. Her comments suggest that staying single was not about giving up on love, but about waiting until she felt ready to let someone into her life.
That changed when her relationship with Hamilton began developing in 2026.
Romance With Lewis Hamilton
Kardashian and Hamilton had known each other for years before romance rumours emerged. They were photographed together as part of the same group at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in 2014, when Kardashian was with West and Hamilton was dating Nicole Scherzinger. They were also seen at the same Paris fashion events in 2015.
