Social media users think they're spotting sexual tension between Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes in footage from his new documentary.
The speculation erupted after A24 released the trailer for You Can See Everything on Monday, 7 September, directed by Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. In one unsettling scene, Holmes sits unusually close to Fielder in her home, maintaining intense eye contact as they speak.
While the exchange has left many viewers uncomfortable, others have focused on the apparent chemistry between the pair, wondering whether there is more to the charged interaction than meets the eye.
The Internet Has Already Dreamed up Some Crazy Theories
One X user shared images of Nathan and Elizabeth's intense exchange with the caption, 'astronomical levels of sexual tension'.
Another user echoed the sentiment on X, writing, 'I'm glad I'm seeing this same opinion echoed by people on here because I thought I was insane for thinking the sexual tension in this clip was off the charts.'

Redditors joined the fray to pile on the wild speculation, with one user adding a hot take: 'I genuinely think Nathan and Elizabeth f*ck before she goes to prison and the rest of the movie is him thinking she's the love of his life and him draining his bank account for her.'
And it gets even crazier. Another Redditor imagined an elaborate twist involving Holmes' prison sentence, her alleged technology and even a secret identity swap: 'If I know Nathan Fielder, I know he will have an insane reveal: he's the father of the baby, he goaded her into the whole thing as an experiment and the technology actually works but they faked that it didn't work just to see what would happen.'
As ridiculous as the theories may sound, they fit the reputations of the people at the centre of them.
Fielder gained fame for his deadpan, often self-referential humour, and for conducting deliberately absurd experiments, as seen in his HBO series The Rehearsal and Comedy Central's Nathan for You.
Holmes, meanwhile, became one of Silicon Valley's most notorious figures after the collapse of Theranos and her subsequent fraud conviction. Pair them together in a documentary that blurs the line between performance and reality, and it's easy to see why the internet is abuzz with wild theories.
Fielder Admits He's Still Trying To Understand Holmes
The 174-minute documentary held a surprise premiere screening at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday night. Before entering the Herzog Theatre, viewers were asked to tuck their electronic devices away in Yondr pouches.
At a talkback after the screening, Fielder told the Telluride audience he was 'struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced' in his interactions with Holmes, as reported by Vanity Fair. Nathan added that he was 'genuinely excited' for the film to be released so that viewers could 'help me understand what I experienced.'
Fielder and Holmes' Lives Outside the Documentary
Nathan Fielder was previously married to Sarah Ziolkowska, a children's librarian. They met at a comedy show in Canada and tied the knot in 2011, back when Nathan For You was in early production. The pair divorced in 2015.
Elizabeth Holmes is married to Billy Evans. A hotel heir and tech worker, Billy met Elizabeth at a party in 2017, as Theranos was facing mounting scrutiny. The pair reportedly married in 2019 in a private ceremony. They welcomed their two children in 2021 and 2023, before Holmes began serving her prison sentence.
What To Expect From You Can See Everything
Whatever viewers make of the apparent tension between Fielder and Holmes, the director's own comments suggest the documentary is intended to leave audiences with questions rather than easy answers.
Fielder has admitted that he is still trying to understand his interactions with Holmes, making the film's unusual dynamic all the more intriguing.
For now, social media's wild theories remain just that: theories. Whether You Can See Everything offers an explanation for the strange chemistry captured in its trailer remains to be seen.
