A petition calling for Nicki Minaj to be deported to Trinidad and Tobago has resurfaced online following the latest US midterm election. The Change.org campaign, which was originally launched in July 2025, now has over 100,000 verified signatures as social media users continue to discuss her support for US President Donald Trump.
The renewed attention follows Minaj's public support for Republican candidates during the 2026 US midterm election campaign. Several of the candidates she supported were defeated, prompting criticism and reactions from X users.
Petition Reaches 100,000 Signatures
The Change.org petition, titled 'Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad', was created on 9 July 2025. As of 6 November 2026, the campaign displays over 100,000 verified signatures. It calls on US authorities to consider sending the rapper back to her birthplace, citing her online behaviour and public disputes as reasons.
The petition's description accuses Minaj of targeting Jay-Z and Beyoncé, referring to them as the Carters. It also raises concerns about her husband, Kenneth Petty, and his criminal history.

Petty, whom Minaj married in October 2019, was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in New York in 1995 following an incident involving a 16-year-old girl the previous year. He served more than four years in prison and was required to register as a sex offender.
His legal troubles continued after the couple moved to California. In 2021, Petty pleaded guilty to a federal charge of failing to register as a sex offender after relocating from New York. He was sentenced in July 2022 to three years of probation, one year of home confinement and a $55,000 (approximately £43,000) fine.
Questions about the rapper's US immigration status have also surfaced previously. Minaj said in a 2018 social media post that she had arrived in the country as an undocumented immigrant when she was five years old.
Rapper Backs Trump and Republicans
The rapper's political views became a major source of controversy after her appearance at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in December 2025. There, she praised Trump and criticised California Governor Gavin Newsom over his support for transgender young people. Her comments, including remarks about gender, drew criticism from some LGBTQ+ supporters and longtime fans who had viewed her as an ally.
Despite the backlash, Minaj continued to demonstrate her support for Trump in the months leading up to the November 2026 midterm elections. She publicly encouraged her followers to vote Republican and appeared alongside the President during campaign activities.
On 25 October, she joined Trump at a campaign event in Michigan supporting Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers. Rogers subsequently lost to Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed by more than seven percentage points.
The election results brought defeats for several candidates endorsed by Minaj. Democrats made significant gains, including winning previously Republican-held Senate seats in Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Iowa, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Response After Election Defeats
Minaj initially remained quiet on social media following the election results. She later returned to X on 5 November with a lengthy statement defending Trump and the Republican Party. Her post began with the declaration: 'Trump is STILL your PRESIDENT'. She also praised Vice President JD Vance and highlighted Republican candidates who had won their respective races.
The rapper ended her message by telling critics to 'Stay tuned & STAY MAD', while encouraging her supporters to wake up. Her response attracted further criticism, with social media users continuing to scrutinise her political allegiance and the outcome of her campaign efforts.
