Olivia Colman made an unexpected transition from Oscar-winning actor to runway model as she walked in Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week.
Colman joined a high-profile cast of celebrities and established models at the show in Paris on 4 October. She appeared on the runway in a sleek black leather ensemble. Her surprise appearance quickly became one of the talking points from Miuccia Prada's latest collection.
Taking a Break From Her Day Job
The 52-year-old actor wore a black leather blazer with a matching knee-length skirt, creating a sharply tailored look that combined formalwear with the tougher aesthetic of leather. She completed the outfit with flat shoes and wore her hair pulled back into a low ponytail.
The appearance marked Colman's runway debut and placed her alongside familiar fashion faces including Gigi Hadid and Emma Corrin. Miu Miu's Spring/Summer 2027 cast also included Jamie Bell, Louisa Jacobson, Noah Jupe, Ella Bleu Travolta and Katherine Waterston, according to the Prada Group's official announcement.
Colman's appearance was particularly notable because of her relatively understated approach to fashion compared with some of the celebrities regularly recruited for major runway shows. Her presence fitted Miu Miu's long-running practice of mixing established actors with professional models.
The Spring/Summer 2027 collection, titled Here and Now, centred on the collision of everyday dressing, sportswear and more formal pieces. Miu Miu described the collection as bringing together leather, knitwear, vintage clothing, tailoring and eveningwear, with contrasting elements deliberately placed together.
That approach was visible throughout the show. Leather skirt suits appeared alongside sports-inspired tops, trainers and casual separates, while traditional tailoring was repeatedly disrupted by shorter silhouettes and more relaxed styling.
Contemporary Fashion
Her knee-length skirt and structured blazer retained the shape of traditional suiting, while the leather fabrication gave the outfit a more contemporary edge.
The show also featured a mixture of checks, tartans, low-rise denim, micro-shorts and knee-length skirts. Sportswear was paired with tailoring, while trainers were used with outfits that would traditionally have been styled with more formal footwear.
Hadid appeared in a diamante-panelled midi skirt with a cropped grey top and New Balance x Miu Miu trainers, while Corrin wore a mottled brown leather jacket with a printed shirt and tiny white shorts.
Miu Miu's official collection notes confirmed that the brand continued its collaboration with Wrangler for reworked vintage denim and introduced a new version of the New Balance RC150 racing sneaker. The collection also incorporated suede, satin, gauze, metal and intentionally aged leather treatments.
Headline Moment
For Colman, however, the runway appearance itself remained the headline moment. Her low-key styling and natural-looking grey hair gave the otherwise highly produced fashion event a distinctly different presence.
The actor has recently attracted attention for embracing her grey hair. Her appearance at the Zurich Film Festival earlier in the week also generated coverage after she appeared with a silver-grey hairstyle, marking another visible shift from her darker look.
At Miu Miu, that natural approach was paired with one of the collection's most polished silhouettes. Rather than relying on an elaborate gown or dramatic styling, Colman walked in a structured leather blazer, knee-length skirt and flats.
Her unexpected runway debut also reinforced Miu Miu's reputation for unconventional casting. The label has placed actors and other recognisable personalities on its catwalk, using familiar faces alongside professional models.
With Colman joining Hadid, Corrin and Bell for Spring/Summer 2027, Miu Miu once again blurred the line between celebrity appearance and traditional runway casting.
