Dior has shared a new video featuring Sabrina Carpenter and Jonathan Anderson Instagram/Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter is usually dressed to look like a glamorous pop star, so seeing her in jeans, a plaid shirt and trainers is bound to feel a little strange. That is exactly what happened when Dior shared a new video featuring Carpenter and creative director Jonathan Anderson.

The singer's unexpected casual look quickly became the talking point, with fans comparing her outfit to something straight out of a dad's wardrobe. And the fact that she was dressed almost exactly like Anderson only made the moment more amusing.

Sabrina Carpenter's Casual Fashion Switch

Dior's Instagram video shows Carpenter walking on a walking pad with the caption: 'In Training'. The camera then pulls back to reveal Anderson walking alongside her on another walking pad. Anderson asks: 'How long do you want me to do this for?' Carpenter replies with a completely straight face: 'Could u just keep going?'

The funny exchange is one thing, but their matching outfits immediately steal attention. Both wear open plaid button-down shirts over white T-shirts, tucked-in jeans with brown leather belts and outdoor-style trainers.

The look makes perfect sense for Anderson, whose personal style can lean towards relaxed, practical pieces. On Carpenter, however, it is a very different story.

Fans were quick to notice the contrast.

One commented: 'Dior really paid millions to dress Sabrina like she just walked out of a 90s dad's closet.' Another wrote: 'Omg it's like seeing her out of drag', while another admitted: 'It feels so strange to see Sabrina in jeans.'

Inside the Pop Star's Signature Style

The reaction makes sense when you consider how strongly Carpenter has established her fashion image. The singer is known for ultra-feminine, retro-inspired glamour, with corsets, tiny dresses, lingerie-inspired pieces, sequins, lace, bows and sky-high heels forming much of her signature look.

Her styling often mixes modern pop-star sex appeal with old-Hollywood influences, from fitted silhouettes and playful hemlines to polished hair and soft, feminine beauty looks. Even her stage outfits tend to be deliberately glamorous and sparkly.

That is why the Dior video feels so unexpected. A plaid shirt, jeans, leather belt and practical trainers strip away almost every detail associated with Carpenter's usual glamour formula, making her look instantly unfamiliar to fans.

Sabrina Carpenter as a Dior Favourite

The casual video also comes during a particularly visible period in Carpenter's relationship with Dior.

At her 2026 Coachella headline performance, she wore four custom Dior looks designed by Anderson. These included a sequinned red mini dress, a gold sequinned dress, a lingerie-inspired beaded look and a black lace corset bodysuit.

And at the 2026 Met Gala, Carpenter wore a custom Dior tulle dress by Anderson covered with rhinestone-wrapped film strips referencing Audrey Hepburn's 1954 film Sabrina.

The latest Dior video takes their partnership in a completely different direction. Instead of presenting Carpenter as a glamorous pop star in an elaborate custom creation, it puts her in an everyday outfit and has her casually walking beside Anderson.

The timing is also notable as Dior and A24 have announced a two-year partnership centred on New York's historic Cherry Lane Theatre, with Carpenter among the cultural figures involved in the campaign.
