Some dresses are so good that celebrities wouldn't mind getting caught in an unspoken battle of 'who wore it better?'. One daring Saint Laurent design has now made its way onto Adéla, Zoë Kravitz, and Olandria Carthen, but in a rare feat, the internet cares less about who wore it best and more about how anyone can comfortably wear it at all.

Adéla became the latest star to take on the black Saint Laurent gown at the Airbnb.org Gala in Los Angeles on Wednesday, 28 October. The fitted floor-length design features a scalloped halter neckline and four strategically placed cutouts beneath the bust, leaving very little room for error and apparently plenty of room for discussion.

Photos of the singer landed on Reddit, where eagle-eyed fashion fans recognised the dress from its previous outings on Kravitz and Carthen. Suddenly, what started as a look at Adéla's gala fashion became an unofficial 3-way test of one particularly unforgiving dress.

One Saint Laurent Dress, Three Very Different Outings

Kravitz gave the design its first major red-carpet spotlight back in February 2022, when she wore a custom Saint Laurent version by Anthony Vaccarello to a London screening of The Batman. Her floor-length black gown featured the now-familiar scalloped neckline and under-bust cutouts, which even earned comparisons to the shape of Catwoman's mask at the time.

Nearly four years later, Carthen brought the look back for a YSL Beauty event in New York on 10 February. Her version paired a fitted black column silhouette with the scalloped halter and quartet of cutouts, finished with pointed black pumps and geometric Saint Laurent earrings.

Then came Adéla, whose bright pink hair and red lipstick added a pop of colour to the otherwise all-black look at Wednesday's gala. Three women, three different occasions, and one dress construction that has now inspired a surprisingly specific fashion debate.

Fans Think the Dress Needs a 'Very Specific Boob Shape'

'I love the idea of the design, but the girls look pretty uncomfortable,' one Reddit user wrote after seeing Adéla's photos.

Another commenter recognised Kravitz's earlier version and suggested the challenge might be built right into the dress. 'I want to love this dress but you really need a very specific boob shape to pull it off,' they wrote, adding that Kravitz's version looked 'stunning from the front, but a little weird from the side.'

Someone else promptly produced photographic evidence of Carthen in the controversial dress, writing, 'Olandria also wore it. It definitely looks uncomfortable...'

That was enough to turn the comments into an impromptu digital Saint Laurent fitting room. One person said Adéla's look was 'so cute till that side angle,' while another suggested that 'a translucent mesh cup underneath or something would help.' One commenter was less interested in a technical solution, simply declaring, 'Girl your tiddies are trying to break free.'

Perhaps the problem isn't finding someone who can pull the dress off, then. After surviving three celebrities, two continents, and more than four years of red carpets, Saint Laurent's 'boob puzzle' may simply refuse to be solved. As for Adéla, if there's ever been a night to take her own advice from 'Nicole Kidman' and pray that they're sitting right, the Airbnb.org Gala may have been it.
