Usher has found himself at the centre of a bizarre internet theory after fans became convinced that a look-alike performed in his place during a recent concert. Videos from his New Jersey show quickly spread online, with some viewers insisting the man on stage did not look or move like the Grammy-winning singer.
The speculation gained traction after Usher performed at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, US, on 7 August as part of The R&B Tour: Raymond & Brown with Chris Brown.
Fans Are Convinced Usher Used a Look-Alike
Attendees were quick to notice the performer's striking difference from Usher, with footage from the concert sparking further discussion online.
On social media, one fan weighed in, saying: 'I would request my money back because we all know that was not him.' Another joked: 'He doesn't even dance like Usher lol,' while someone else bluntly wrote: 'That wasn't him and they not fooling us.'
Others focused on his appearance. One commenter said: 'if I saw a picture of this guy without being told it was usher... I would have questioned who it was.' Another pointed to his cheekbones, writing: 'That's not Usher. Usher doesn't have high cheek bone like that.'
Not everyone was convinced, however.
Some fans pushed back against the theory, with one arguing that the sunglasses were responsible for making Usher look different. 'Y'all weird. No one's going to clone or stunt double a concert,' one user wrote.

Usher Laughs Off the Rumours
Usher himself has responded to the speculation, and he does not appear particularly concerned by it.
The singer addressed the claims in comments shared through the official R&B Tour Instagram account. Instead of taking the theory seriously, Usher responded with laughter and wrote: Y'all are funny... clone? They can't clone this??'
In another comment, he asked: 'How y'all come up with this?' before adding several laughing emojis and joking: 'AI ain't that advanced.'
His response effectively dismissed the idea that he had hired a body double or somehow used a clone to perform for the audience.
Another Onstage Moment Goes Viral
The clone rumours are not the first time Usher's current tour has generated viral conversations.
In July, the singer made headlines after an onstage interaction with a female fan during the Nashville stop of the tour. Usher invited a woman onto the stage during his performance of 'Can U Handle It?' but ended the routine after she appeared hesitant during the sensual choreography.
The moment sparked mixed reactions online, with viewers debating the woman's response and whether she knew what to expect from the performance. She later pushed back against criticism surrounding the incident.
Now, just weeks later, another Usher concert clip has taken over social media, this time with the singer himself laughing at the claims.
Usher Continues R&B Tour With Chris Brown
Usher is currently travelling across North America with Chris Brown for their 2026 R&B Tour. The 33-date stadium run began on 26 June in Denver and includes stops in cities including Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Miami. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Tampa on 11 December.
The pair performed two consecutive shows at MetLife Stadium on 7 and 8 August before continuing to Toronto for dates on 11 and 12 August.
