Vera Wang, 77, gave fans a rare glimpse of herself without the glamour, sharing a makeup-free selfie from bed and revealling she was spending the day in her 'real office'.
The fashion designer said she was stuck in bed and 'sneezing a lot' in a candid post on Saturday, 26 September. The photo stood in a striking contrast to the elaborate gowns, beauty looks and red-carpet appearances that have long defined her public image.
Wang Gives Followers a Rare Glimpse Behind the Glamour
Wang appeared to be resting against a pillow while wearing a black sleeveless top, with her long hair loose around her face. She appeared to be wearing little to no makeup in the photo.
'STUCK in my bed sneezing a lot..... so staying here .....my real office. !🙏👏🛏️📥,' Wang wrote in the caption.
The designer did not provide further details about what was causing her symptoms, but her followers quickly encouraged her to take the opportunity to rest.
'Rest, sleep, soup, tea with honey, comfort food, and entertaining tv, to watch while you heal,' one commenter wrote. 'Oooohhh nooo! Lots of rest please!!!' another added.
The candid moment offered a sharp contrast to the polished fashion imagery that has defined much of Wang's public presence throughout her career.
The Designer Has Previously Opened Up About Her Work Ethic
While Wang may have been confined to bed, calling it her 'real office' appears particularly fitting given how she has previously described her relationship with work. In an October 2025 interview with E! News, Wang said she believed working hard helped keep her occupied and engaged both mentally and physically.
'I always say to people I think I work really hard, and I think work is a great deterrent,' she said at the time. 'It just keeps you occupied mentally, physically. It keeps you engaged. So I think work is really, really important.'
Wang has also previously pushed back against the tendency to make her age the defining feature of her career. In 2023, she told ELLE that she hoped discussion about her ageing would not 'supersede' her work, adding that it raised the issue of ageism and that she did not want to be pigeonholed.
The designer has maintained a busy fashion presence well into her 70s.
Wang Recently Marked 77 With a Dramatic Style Change
The bedroom selfie comes three months after Wang celebrated her 77th birthday with a dramatic new hairstyle.
Wang marked her birthday on 27 June and subsequently shared photos from a celebration featuring a new shoulder-length honey-blonde lob, replacing the long brunette hair that has been closely associated with her look.
In one Instagram post, Wang wore a white halter gown from her Haute collection while celebrating with friends. Another showed her sitting at a table as a large white birthday cake decorated with sparklers and the number '77' was brought out.
Her hairstyle had already undergone several transformations earlier in the year. In May, Wang attended the 2026 Met Gala with platinum-blonde hair styled back with face-framing pieces, pairing the look with an avant-garde black ensemble.
The designer has previously spoken about her approach to getting older, telling Julia Louis-Dreyfus on the 'Wiser Than Me' podcast in 2024 that every age has its own 'unique time and beauty'.
For now, though, Wang appears to be taking a brief break from the red carpets and fashion spotlight. And if her latest caption is any indication, she may still have some work to do from bed.
