Christian authors Heather Thompson Day and her husband, Seth Day, have been arrested in Texas following allegations of physical and sexual abuse involving a 14-year-old girl. The couple, both 39, were arrested on 24 September 2026 after a high school teacher raised concerns about the teenager's visible injuries, according to court documents reported by CBS News Texas.

The couple co-authored I'll See You Tomorrow, a bestselling Christian relationship book, and built public profiles through their work in faith and publishing. The allegations have drawn attention to their professional lives, but neither the accusations nor the charges establish guilt, which must be determined through the legal process.

Police investigate allegations of physical and sexual abuse after a teacher reports a 14 year old girl's injuries

Teacher's Report Triggers Investigation

The investigation began on 24 September, when a high school teacher contacted the Keene Police Department after noticing visible injuries to the teenager's face and head, according to an arrest affidavit. The girl was subsequently interviewed at the Johnson County Children's Advocacy Center and received treatment at Cook Children's Medical Center, where she reportedly made further allegations to investigators.

According to the affidavit, the teenager alleged that Seth struck her with a mobile phone on 22 September, causing injuries to her face. She also told investigators that similar incidents had happened previously and alleged that he sexually assaulted her on the same date. Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for the family home as part of their investigation.

Both were arrested on 24 September on charges relating to injury to a child, according to published reports. Seth was subsequently charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, while Heather was charged with injury to a child by omission.

The teenager reportedly alleged that her mother knew about the abuse but failed to report it, and had previously encouraged her to conceal injuries or provide explanations for them.

The affidavit also refers to previous reports investigated by Child Protective Services, including an incident in Midland, Texas, in August 2026. Police reportedly said earlier reports had been closed at the state level, although this does not establish whether the allegations were proven. The investigation into the current allegations remains ongoing.

The couple's bestselling relationship book and Christian careers come under scrutiny following their arrests

University Responds as Book Comes Under Scrutiny

Heather and Seth co-authored I'll See You Tomorrow, which examines relationships and the challenges of maintaining them. Heather is a Christian author, speaker and podcast host, while Seth worked as a professor at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas.

The university confirmed that Seth had been placed on administrative leave following his arrest and said it was co-operating with law enforcement. In a statement reported by CBS News Texas, the institution said: 'We are fully cooperating with law enforcement. We understand that the current allegations do not involve SWAU students, staff, or other faculty members.' The university also said community safety remained a priority and that it would share further information when appropriate.

Both were released on bond, which also reported that an emergency protective order barred them from having contact with their children. Subsequent reporting stated that the couple were ordered to wear monitoring devices as part of their release conditions. These court-imposed measures do not establish that the allegations are true.

Heather denied the allegations during a bond hearing, telling the judge: 'That is not true.' The quotation is attributed to reporting on the hearing, and no additional remarks are included here because their precise wording and context require separate verification. The allegations against both individuals remain unproven, and any determination of criminal responsibility must be made through the courts.
