Would you wear the same pair of socks for three weeks without worrying about foot odour? HercLéon claims its new HercSocks V5.0 can do just that, using 10 odour-fighting technologies designed to keep the socks smelling fresh for up to 21 days between washes.
The design combines copper, silver, zinc, recycled coffee grounds and charcoal, alongside features intended to improve comfort and airflow. Instead of relying on frequent washing to keep odours at bay, the company says its latest socks tackle the problem through their materials.
The Technology Behind Odour Control
HercLéon says HercSocks V5.0 uses its proprietary HercFiber material platform, which combines yarn with metals and natural materials selected for their intended functions. Copper and silver are intended to help limit the growth of odour-causing bacteria, while zinc targets certain unpleasant-smelling compounds.
Recycled coffee grounds are incorporated into the yarn to help absorb odour and manage moisture, while porous charcoal provides another component designed to hold moisture and smells. Five additional technologies complete the system, bringing the total to 10 odour-fighting technologies designed to keep the socks fresh for up to 21 days.
A Closer Look at the Design
HercSocks V5.0 features five knitted zones designed for specific purposes, including a secure cuff, ventilation across the top of the foot, forefoot cushioning, an arch-support band and a reinforced heel. Together, these features aim to provide everyday comfort while addressing areas that can affect fit, airflow and durability.
The range comes in seven styles, from liners and no-show socks to ankle, quarter, crew and knee-high options. Its sockless style is designed to work with HercSole, an optional 3D-printed insole featuring an open-lattice structure intended to let air circulate beneath the foot.
HercLéon is also introducing HercSocks Winter. This is separate version designed for rain, snow, wind and cold.
HercSocks Prices and Bundle Deals
HercSocks V5.0 launched on Kickstarter on 21 October, with early-backer prices starting at $29 (£22) for one pair, compared with a planned retail price of $39 (£29). A two-pair bundle costs $49 (£37), while three pairs cost $69 (£52) and six pairs cost $99 (£74).
Larger bundles include other HercLéon products, such as shirts, underwear, winter socks and HercSole insoles. Backers can also choose from available add-ons, although knee-high socks carry an additional charge of $5 (£4) per pair.
The socks will initially be available in black, with grey, navy and white planned for future releases. The company also lists a 30-day return window, a money-back guarantee and a lifetime manufacturer warranty, with full terms available through its campaign.
Rethinking Everyday Clothing Essentials
HercLéon was founded in 2017 by Wenceslaus Muenyi after a trip to Iceland inspired him to explore why clothes packed alongside worn garments picked up unwanted smells. His research led to HercFiber, the company's proprietary material platform, and the launch of its Apollo shirt in 2019.
The company has also applied the same concept to its clothing, with the HercShirt 3.0 designed to stay fresh for up to 30 days without washing. Although the shirt is made for everyday wear, and not intense exercise.
With HercSocks V5.0, HercLéon is extending its odour-control approach to another everyday wardrobe staple. Whether people will embrace wearing the same pair for three weeks remains to be seen, but the idea raises an intriguing question about how material innovation could change everyday laundry habits.
