Katy Perry found herself temporarily stranded inside a giant inflatable water bottle after fans appeared to ignore her instructions during her headline performance at Isle of MTV Malta on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

The Teenage Dream singer climbed into the transparent bottle while performing at the Floriana Granaries, expecting the crowd to roll her towards an enormous straw positioned near the stage. Instead, viral footage showed concertgoers repeatedly pushing the prop in the opposite direction as Perry shouted and gestured for them to take her back.

Katy Perry's Giant Bottle Stunt Goes Off Course

The spectacle unfolded during a section featuring Perry's chart-topping songs 'Hot N Cold' and 'I Kissed a Girl'. Wearing a sparkling silver outfit, the 41-year-old pop star climbed into the human-sized inflatable bottle, which had been nicknamed 'Katyade', before allowing thousands of fans to carry it above their heads.

The bottle was supposed to travel across the audience towards a matching giant straw. However, once Perry was above the crowd, the stunt became harder to control as different sections of the audience pushed the inflatable in competing directions.

'Get me to that straw,' Perry could reportedly be heard telling the crowd as she pointed towards the stage installation. Footage showed her attempting to redirect fans with her hands, but the bottle continued drifting away while she remained enclosed inside it.

The moment did not appear to involve a dangerous equipment malfunction, and Perry was eventually moved back towards the intended destination. Still, the image of the Grammy-nominated singer urgently directing thousands of fans from inside a giant plastic bottle quickly transformed the ambitious stage stunt into a viral comedy of errors.

Fans Turn Performance Into Viral Chaos

Clips posted by Isle of MTV and concertgoers captured the crowd screaming as the inflatable bottle rolled overhead. In several videos, Perry appeared to switch between laughing, pointing towards the straw and pleading with fans to change direction as she became increasingly distant from the stage.

The official Isle of MTV account later leaned into the chaos, sharing footage of Perry rolling across the audience. Perry had previously introduced the oversized water bottle during a concert in France, where she celebrated after the crowd successfully carried her 'to the straw'.

The Malta attempt proved considerably less coordinated. Although the singer was not literally locked inside the prop, her dependence on the crowd meant she had little control over where it travelled once the stunt began.

The unpredictable sequence became one of the most widely shared moments from the free music event. It also reflected Perry's long-running preference for theatrical, oversized props, from the giant household objects used during her Las Vegas residency to the elaborate aerial elements featured on her Lifetimes Tour.

Perry Powers Through Unpredictable Stunt

Despite the confusion, Perry completed the crowd-surfing sequence and continued the performance without any reported injury. The singer also waved a Maltese flag, invited fans onto the stage and interacted directly with audience members during the headline set.

The bottle incident followed several viral moments involving Perry's ambitious concert props. During a previous Lifetimes Tour performance in San Francisco, she briefly lost her balance after a mechanical butterfly carrying her above the audience suddenly dropped and tilted. She recovered and finished the song without falling.

In Malta, however, the equipment appeared to work as planned. The crowd simply failed to follow Perry's navigation instructions, leaving one of pop music's most recognisable performers stuck inside a rolling bottle and asking thousands of excited fans to please send her back.
