Not every Monaco story ends on the podium. While Kimi Antonelli was busy securing another dominant victory, a rather different drama played out on the start-finish-straight involving a microphone, a reality TV star, and arguably the most famous two minutes in Formula 1 broadcasting.

Kim Kardashian had arrived at the Monaco Grand Prix as a Ferrari guest, there to support Lewis Hamilton, whom she's been dating since the start of the year. She left as one of the most-talked-about figures of the entire weekend, and not because of anything she said.

What Actually Happened on the Grid

During his traditional pre-race grid walk, Sky Sports F1 broadcaster Martin Brundle approached Kardashian and introduced himself, saying: 'Kim, Martin Brundle, Sky F1. How are you today? Are you enjoying F1?'

The reality TV star appeared not to respond before members of her security team moved Brundle away from the group. The veteran broadcaster, undeterred, was heard replying, 'Don't push me, mate. I'm nearly famous.'

The clip quickly went viral on social media, generating millions of views and igniting a debate over whether Kardashian ignored Brundle or never heard his question amid the noise and chaos of the Monaco grid. Both interpretations are entirely plausible. Others pointed out she probably just does not know who the legend is.

Monaco on race day is extraordinarily loud, cramped, and chaotic. Blaming someone for not catching a question in those conditions is not straightforward.

What are the Rules of the Grid Walk?

Brundle has been conducting his pre-race interviews since 1998, and what started as a segment to fill airtime before lights out has evolved into one of the most-watched parts of any race weekend.

The grid walk is spontaneous, unpredictable, and entirely dependent on goodwill. No celebrity is contractually obliged to speak. But there is a tacit understanding that accompanies acceptance of an invitation to the F1 grid. Guests are, in a very real sense, part of the show.

Kardashian's appearance marked her first high-profile visit to a Formula 1 paddock and generated widespread interest throughout the weekend. She was frequently shown on television watching events from the Ferrari garage as Hamilton secured a strong grid position. If you're happy to be filmed in the pit, photographed with team principals, and featured in broadcast packages, declining a brief word with the sport's most recognisable pit-lane reporter does look a little selective.

Brundle has Been Here Before

That said, this is hardly new territory for him. Cara Delevingne blanked him at the 2023 British Grand Prix, later revealing she had been instructed to decline the interview. Usher, DJ Khaled, and Pharrell Williams have all produced memorable, if not awkward, exchanges with him over the years.

As a bonus at Monaco, Brundle managed to interview actress Karen Gillan, who told Sky Sports she was there to support Haas. His resilience and ability to adapt to unexpected situations only add to the allure of his grid walk, which remains a captivating aspect of the F1 experience. Ultimately, whether through moments of connection or misunderstanding, these interactions keep fans entertained and engaged, ensuring that the narrative of each race weekend is as dynamic as the sport itself.
