BLACKPINK star Lisa is facing criticism over her new Meta AI glasses collaboration, with social media users questioning the partnership because the singer has repeatedly spoken about stalking, unwanted photography and having 'no privacy'.
Meta unveiled the Meta Glasses by LISA collection on Wednesday, 23 September, including the Adventurer LISA Edition and Capri LISA Edition, both starting at $399. Meta Glasses can take photos and videos hands-free, putting the campaign into a debate Lisa has previously described from the other side.
The backlash gathered pace on Thursday, 24 September. One Reddit user wrote: 'My opinion, any public figure that endorses these glasses shouldn't expect anyone to respect their privacy.'
Lisa Has Repeatedly Spoken About Feeling Unsafe
The criticism has landed sharply because Lisa's privacy concerns are well documented. In a February 2025 interview, the 'Rockstar' singer described a fan waiting outside her South Korean home after she returned from a flight, then appearing again at night. She also recalled someone trying to get into a taxi with her by putting a leg between the door.

'I was scared to be alone. I felt unsafe,' Lisa said. She explained that secretly taken photographs had begun to make ordinary encounters feel threatening because she could not know whether someone approaching her simply wanted a picture or might cross a more serious boundary. By June 2026, The White Lotus actor said fans had become more respectful after she spoke publicly about having 'no privacy.'
Paparazzi Have Shaped Lisa's Private Life
Lisa has also described how being photographed influenced her romantic life. In her 2026 documentary Always Lalisa, she said she hid relationships when she was younger because being caught by paparazzi could affect an idol's popularity. 'If you're seeing someone and you get caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops,' she said.
Her experience with unwanted attention stretches back further. That history is why critics are framing the Meta deal as contradictory rather than treating it as a standard celebrity fashion-tech partnership. Another Reddit commenter referenced her previous stalking complaints while questioning the endorsement. The argument centres on the gap critics see between asking for stronger personal boundaries and promoting wearable technology equipped with a hands-free camera.

The criticism does not mean Lisa has been accused of secretly recording anyone, and promoting the product does not remove her own right to privacy. Meta says its AI glasses use a visible white capture LED while photos or video are being recorded. The company also says the camera disables if the light is covered or physically tampered with.
Those safeguards have become more prominent as scrutiny around covert recording has grown. Meta announced in late August that it was rolling out an update after users found ways to cover the indicator after recording had already started. The company says the updated system now stops the camera when it detects that obstruction.
For Lisa, the timing makes the debate especially personal. The collaboration arrives only months after she said fans had begun respecting her boundaries more, and weeks after excerpts from Always Lalisa highlighted how paparazzi shaped her private decisions. That timeline has turned a $399 accessories drop into a wider argument over celebrity endorsements, consent and whether wearable cameras sit comfortably beside her repeated calls for greater personal space and privacy.
