For Simu Liu, the 'Ten Rings' have apparently met their real-life match. The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star has married Allison Hsu in France, and fans have already turned his Marvel connection into a playful wedding joke.
The couple quietly exchanged vows over the weekend after dating since late 2022, with Liu's publicist confirming the marriage to CBC News. Their French ceremony also brings their romantic Paris story full circle, almost a year after they got engaged during a trip to the city.
Simu Liu Is Now Married
Liu, 37, and Hsu, 30, first became linked publicly in November 2022. Hsu, a music industry executive who has worked at Interscope Records, shared a cosy photograph with Liu around that time, before the pair made their red carpet debut at the Los Angeles premiere of Violent Night on 29 November.
Their relationship gradually became more public, with Liu regularly sharing affectionate messages about Hsu. In August 2023, he wrote on Instagram that there was 'simply nothing better than holding your hand', while thanking her for never giving up on him.
Their Paris Proposal
The couple announced their engagement in May 2025 with a photograph from a Paris balcony. Hsu showed off her large diamond ring while the pair captioned the announcement 'Us forever'.
The engagement itself came with an unexpected celebrity twist. Liu later revealed that he contacted Taylor Swift's team because Hsu is a Swiftie, asking whether the singer could send a short congratulatory video, which Swift did two days later.
Taylor Swift Joined In
Liu explained during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Swift's music had been important during the early part of his relationship with Hsu. He therefore wanted her involvement to make the proposal particularly meaningful for his fiancée.
He recalled that Hsu was already emotional before seeing the video, but became even more overwhelmed after Swift appeared on screen. Liu jokingly described the singer as 'the cherry on top' of the proposal.
From Ten Rings to One
Now that Liu has become a husband, social media has found an amusing connection between his biggest Marvel role and his real-life milestone. Some commenters joked that the actor had gone from the superhero's 'Ten Rings' to one wedding ring, with one post saying, 'He gave up one of his 10 rings'.

Another commenter joked, 'Married in France. Ten rings down to one. Character development', turning Liu's fictional superhero identity into a playful wedding reference. These are social-media jokes rather than details about the couple's actual rings or ceremony.
Their French Love Story
France also adds another layer to the couple's story because their engagement took place in Paris in May 2025. Their wedding there means the place where Liu asked Hsu to marry him is now closely linked to the next major chapter of their relationship.
Details about the ceremony itself have remained relatively private, despite the couple previously sharing parts of their romance online. Hsu had also posted images connected to wedding-related events in Mexico before the French celebrations.
Shang-Chi Becomes a Husband
Liu's marriage arrives as his career continues to be closely tied to the Marvel character that made him an international star. His portrayal of Shang-Chi followed his earlier success as Jung Kim in the CBC comedy Kim's Convenience, while he has since appeared in projects including Barbie, The Copenhagen Test and Broadway's Oh, Mary!.
He is also set to return as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday. For now, though, his biggest real-life update is considerably less superheroic: the man associated with the 'Ten Rings' is officially a husband.
