Anne Hathaway has pushed back against praise for continuing to work while pregnant, insisting that she should not be treated as a heroic figure simply for doing her job. The actress, who is expecting her third child with her husband, Adam Shulman, acknowledged that she has considerable support around her as she navigates pregnancy during an exceptionally busy year in Hollywood.

But Hathaway was quick to point out that her experience is very different from that of many pregnant women who continue working without the same privileges and assistance. 'Please, let's not overpraise the pampered actress,' Hathaway said during an interview. 'There's a lot of pregnant women out there at home and in the workplace who, you know, didn't get a manicure this morning.'

The pointed remark offered a candid reminder that pregnancy can look very different depending on a woman's circumstances, with Hathaway making clear that she recognises how different her own experience is from that of many other working women.

Anne Hathaway Says She Has 'So Much Support'

Hathaway has had an unusually busy 2026, with five major theatrical releases arriving in a single year as she navigates her third pregnancy. Her 2026 releases include Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity, contributing to a packed schedule of premieres, appearances and promotional commitments.

Rather than accepting praise for maintaining such a demanding professional schedule during pregnancy, Hathaway stressed that she is fortunate to have the support that makes her circumstances possible. 'I'm very happy to do my job. I have so much support,' she said.

Her comments come amid attention around pregnant actresses continuing to work, particularly when their careers involve filming, travel, premieres and public appearances. For Hathaway, however, being able to maintain her professional commitments is not something she believes should be presented as an extraordinary feat.

Hathaway's comments came during a conversation surrounding Verity, the psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel and starring Hathaway alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. The film marks the latest release in an unusually crowded year for the actress, who has remained highly visible while promoting her various projects.

During the conversation, Hartnett also referenced a satirical article from The Onion, which joked that the US economy had become overly reliant on Hathaway because of her unusually busy release schedule. Hathaway responded with humour, acknowledging that the relentless run of projects would eventually come to an end.

'Don't worry, I'm going to rest pretty soon,' she said. Her response underlined the difference between her situation and that of pregnant women who may not have the same level of support. By refusing to be celebrated simply for working while pregnant, Hathaway instead used the attention to acknowledge women who do not have the same resources.

And while the actress may be enjoying one of the busiest periods of her career, she made clear that she knows she is in a fortunate position, rather than suggesting her experience should be treated as the standard for every working mother.
