An anonymous source claims that Billy Evans believed the explicit footage in a documentary titled You Can See Everything would not appear in the final cut, contradicting director Lance Oppenheim's account of how the scene was filmed. Evans, the partner of former Theranos chief executive Elizabeth Holmes, reportedly feels his trust was broken after a full-frontal nude shower scene featuring him appeared in the documentary.

According to a source familiar with the situation who spoke on Tuesday, 27 October, Evans agreed to be filmed believing the footage would remain suitable for a PG audience. The allegation has put the documentary's filming process under scrutiny, with the source offering a different account from that previously shared by co-director Lance Oppenheim.

While the director said Evans volunteered to be filmed showering, the source claims Evans understood the explicit footage would not be included in the finished film. Neither account has been independently established as the definitive version of events.

Billy Evans Reportedly Felt His Trust Was Broken

The source told People that Evans, 34, agreed to the shower scene on the understanding that it would not be explicitly revealing on screen. 'The shower scene wasn't Billy's idea. He only agreed to it with an understanding they would keep it PG,' the source said. It added that discovering the scene's inclusion through media coverage would be unsettling, describing the situation as a violation of trust.

The account is not a direct public statement from Evans. Instead, it reflects what an unnamed source familiar with the situation told the publication. Readers should distinguish the source's claims from anything Evans has personally confirmed.

A separate report by another media outlet on Monday, 26 October, also cited a source who claimed Evans had been told the nudity would not make the final cut for legal reasons. That report adds another detail to the dispute, although no agreement documenting such a promise has been made public. A news outlet reported that A24, the film's distributor, was contacted for comment.

Lance Oppenheim Gave a Different Account

Oppenheim previously described the circumstances surrounding the scene in an interview, published on 19 October 2026. According to the director, he accompanied Evans to the gym and later asked what he planned to do next. Evans reportedly said he intended to shower, then undressed while cameras were rolling.

Oppenheim recalled that he had been about to suggest a less intrusive way to film Evans entering the shower. The director also said Evans appeared comfortable being seen naked.

In a subsequent interview with another media outlet, Oppenheim acknowledged that he did not know exactly why Evans had agreed to the scene. He speculated about the actor's possible motivations but did not claim certainty about what Evans intended.

The director's account differs from the anonymous source's description of the agreement. Without access to the original discussions or any written terms governing the footage, the precise circumstances remain unresolved.

Inside the Documentary's Private Access

You Can See Everything, directed by Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, follows Holmes and Evans before Holmes began serving her prison sentence in May 2023. The filmmakers were granted extensive access to the couple's daily lives, with a crew filming at their home for long periods. According to a news outlet, Holmes and Evans even let the production team stay in their guest house.

The resulting documentary drew on thousands of hours of footage, leaving the directors to decide what would appear in the final edit. The anonymous source said that the couple had no say over which moments were ultimately included.

The distinction between filming and publication sits at the heart of the dispute. A participant may agree to cameras recording a private moment while having a different understanding of whether the footage will appear in a released film. However, the available reports do not establish the precise terms of any agreement between Evans and the filmmakers.

Elizabeth Holmes' Life Before Prison

Holmes founded Theranos, a blood-testing company that collapsed after scrutiny of claims about its technology. In January 2022, she was convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud and sentenced to more than 11 years in prison that November.

She and Evans, who began dating in 2017, have two children together. The documentary captures their family life in the months before Holmes entered prison, adding a personal dimension to a story already marked by corporate scandal and criminal proceedings.

The disagreement over the shower scene has added further controversy to the film's reception. For now, the source's claims and Oppenheim's account remain in conflict. Neither the allegation that Evans was promised the footage would be excluded nor the director's interpretation of the filming moment should be treated as conclusively established.
