Singer-songwriter Bonnie Tyler, 75, is thankfully no longer in a coma, according to an official update shared through her website. Yet, she remains in hospital in Portugal, where she is continuing to receive intensive care as she recovers.
Her condition is said to be improving, although doctors have stressed that her recovery is gradual and will take time.
Tour Dates Cancelled After Health Emergency
In the latest update, Tyler's team added that all of her remaining summer tour dates have been cancelled or postponed until next year. This affects every scheduled performance up to the end of August.
'At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead,' the statement reads.
The update also revealed that Tyler is aware of the overwhelming support coming in from around the world and is deeply grateful for the messages. Her family has asked for privacy during this period, promising further updates only when there are significant developments.
Why Was Bonnie Tyler Placed in Coma?
Tyler was rushed to hospital in Faro, Portugal, in May after what was described as a serious medical emergency. She underwent intestinal surgery and was subsequently transferred to intensive care.
An initial update at the time stated: 'The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.'
However, her condition later changed. Her representatives confirmed that the singer was in a 'seriously ill but stable' condition following the procedure. Doctors reportedly placed her in an induced coma after surgery, a medical step used when the body needs time to stabilise or to aid recovery after major operations or complications.
Her team reassured fans that although the situation was serious, there were positive signs. Doctors remained hopeful she would make a full recovery, but stressed that progress would not be immediate.
While she is now no longer in an induced coma, her recovery is still ongoing, and medical teams continue to monitor her closely as she regains strength step by step.
Bonnie Tyler: Life & Career Highlights
If you've ever heard that unmistakable raspy voice, you already know Tyler.
Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, she first broke into the music scene in the late 1970s and quickly stood out from the crowd. Her early hit It's a Heartache became a global success and turned her into an international star almost overnight.
But it was the 1980s that truly defined her legacy. Total Eclipse of the Heart, written by Jim Steinman, became one of the biggest ballads of the decade and remains a timeless anthem still played around the world today. Then came Holding Out for a Hero, another dramatic, high-energy classic that cemented her place in pop and rock history.
Over the years, Tyler has continued to perform and record music, building a career that spans decades and generations of fans. Her voice—raw, powerful, and instantly recognisable—has become her signature, setting her apart in an industry where trends constantly shift.
Even into her seventies, she remained active on the touring circuit, performing for audiences across Europe and beyond.
