Kevin Federline is facing a lawsuit from City National Bank over a $117,704 in alleged unpaid debt, nearly two years after his final reported child support payment from ex-wife Britney Spears. The former backup dancer is accused of failing to repay three credit facilities: a credit card, a personal line of credit and an overdraft facility.
The bank is seeking the outstanding balances, together with accrued interest, according to the reported court documents. The agreements were allegedly entered into in November 2024, around the time Spears made her final child support payment for their two sons. However, the timing does not establish any connection between the end of those payments and Federline's alleged failure to repay the bank.
Kevin Federline Faces $117,704 Debt Claim
The lawsuit concerns three separate financial arrangements, each with its own repayment deadline and interest rate. The credit card facility had a repayment deadline of August 2026 and carries a reported interest rate of 20.5%, while the personal line of credit was due in June 2025, with interest charged at 7.5%.
The overdraft facility had the earliest repayment deadline, in April 2025, and carries an 18% interest rate. City National Bank is seeking the outstanding principal as well as accrued interest, meaning the total amount claimed could be higher than the $117,704 figure reported.
The legal action comes nearly two years after Spears' child support arrangement with Federline ended. Their original arrangement provided him with $20,000 a month, before the amount was increased following a 2018 agreement.
Us Weekly reported at the time that the revised monthly payments exceeded $35,000, while TMZ later reported that the amount had risen to $40,000. The payments were subsequently reduced to $20,000 a month after their eldest son, Sean Preston, turned 18, with Spears making her final reported payment on 15 November 2024, after their younger son, Jayden James, turned 18.
Federline Explains Child Support Expenses
Federline has previously discussed the financial demands of raising his sons and maintaining the standard of living they had experienced while with their mother. In his memoir, You Thought You Knew, he said he received $20,000 a month in child support and a separate $20,000 monthly alimony payment for half the duration of his marriage to Spears.
He described the costs associated with raising the boys in Los Angeles, including the need for security and the expenses involved in maintaining their lifestyle. Reflecting on the payments, he wrote: 'People hear figures like that and think you're financially set. But the reality is far from that'.
Federline also described how quickly the money was spent, writing that it was 'gone almost as soon as it came in'. These comments reflect his account of the costs of raising the children and do not establish what he spent the money on beyond the expenses he described.
The reported bank lawsuit concerns separate credit arrangements and does not specify what Federline used the borrowed funds for. There is also no evidence in the reported allegations that the end of child support was connected to the alleged unpaid balances.
Spears and Federline met in 2004 and married on 18 September that year. Spears filed for divorce in November 2006, and their divorce was finalised in July 2007.
Federline later married Victoria Prince in 2013, while he and Spears share two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. City National Bank is seeking repayment of the alleged debt and accrued interest, but the claims have not been established by a court judgment.
Federline's attorney had not immediately responded to a request for comment in the report published on 29 October 2026.
