Kylie Jenner's attempt to prank her mother, Kris Jenner, for a playful 'What's in My Birkin?' video has prompted a very different reaction online, with some viewers accusing the mother-and-daughter duo of flaunting their wealth.
Kylie, 29, shared the YouTube video on 13 September, inviting Kris, 70, to take part in the light-hearted segment. While the pair appeared to enjoy themselves, the focus on their Hermès Birkin handbags quickly attracted criticism from some social media users.

The prank began with Kylie secretly taking various objects from Kris's home before their sit-down. Among the items she reportedly grabbed were an apple, a massage tool and a bedazzled lighter. Kylie then slipped them into the contents of her own Birkin reveal, hoping to catch her mother off guard.

Kylie's bag was identified as a Birkin 35 in Rose Scheherazade shiny Porosus crocodile with palladium hardware, with an estimated value of $70,000 (£52,000). Kris's was reported as a Birkin 35 in Fauve matte Porosus crocodile, estimated at $65,000 (£48,290). These figures are third-party estimates rather than prices confirmed by Hermès or the Jenners.
The exact value of exotic Hermès bags can vary substantially depending on condition, provenance, year, materials and the resale market. Current secondary-market listings also show that rare crocodile Birkin 35 bags can command prices well above or below individual estimates, making a precise valuation difficult.
On Reddit, some commenters criticised the decision to centre a YouTube video around luxury handbags. One called the concept 'out of touch', while another questioned whether flaunting expensive possessions had become central to the family's public image. These comments represent individual online reactions rather than evidence of a broader consensus among Kylie's audience.

The backlash also comes after Kylie revealed that exchanging Birkin bags with Kris has become something of a family tradition.
