A Minnesota woman has gone viral after her mugshot from a shoplifting arrest was compared with Jennifer Lopez. Cyrena Anne Quast, 35, was arrested on 30 August after she was accused of stealing two double packs of power-tool batteries worth about $580 from a Monticello store, according to a criminal complaint The Watch MN obtained.
The alleged theft quickly took a back seat to the photograph. Quast's resemblance to Lopez turned a local arrest into a social-media story, with users debating whether they were looking at a booking photo or an image of the singer.
Who Is the Woman in the Jennifer Lopez Lookalike Mugshot?
A store employee reportedly recognised Quast, who is from Saint Cloud, from an alleged theft two days earlier and called police. Quast reportedly admitted taking the battery packs and was booked on a gross-misdemeanour theft charge, according to online arrest listings cited by the New York Post.

The alleged theft was quickly overshadowed by Quast's mugshot. The image, taken by the Wright County Sheriff's Office, drew attention because of its resemblance to Lopez, the 57-year-old singer and actor. Within hours, the photograph had spread across social media and turned a local theft case into a celebrity-lookalike story.
Readers didn't need details about the store, the battery's value, or the arrest to react to the image. Its resemblance provided instant recognition, allowing the photograph to move beyond local crime coverage into entertainment feeds.
Why Was the Jennifer Lopez Lookalike Arrested?
Quast was charged with gross-misdemeanour theft over the alleged battery theft. The Daily Mail reported that she was released the day after her 30 August arrest. Quast has not been convicted.
The criminal complaint also described a separate alleged battery theft two days earlier. That allegation is included as part of the reported case background and should not be treated as a finding of guilt.
The legal details remain separate from the online reaction. An arrest records an accusation and the start of a court process; it does not establish that the accused committed the offence. In this case, however, the mugshot travelled with little of that context attached.
What Did People Say About the Viral Mugshot?
Social-media users focused on the resemblance rather than the allegation. 'Now I wanna see her with makeup on and her hair done, deadass a lost twin,' and described it as 'scarily uncanny'.

Other users joked about how 'she's J.Lo from a different timeline' and played on Lopez's 2002 hit 'Jenny from the Block'.

Comments introduced jail-themed wordplay, while some users jokingly urged Lopez to claim Quast as a long-lost relative and take a DNA test.

The reaction also raises a broader question about mugshots online. A booking photograph records an arrest, not a conviction, yet its meaning can change once social-media users attach a celebrity comparison to it. In this case, the comparison made the image more memorable than the alleged offence and overshadowed its legal context.
Lopez has not addressed the comparison, and there is no indication that she or her representatives are aware of it. The arrest may belong in a court file, but online it became something else entirely. Quast's face displaced the facts of her case, turning a Minnesota booking photo into an accidental audition for Jennifer Lopez's double.
