Rosalía stepped out in New York on 28 October 2026 carrying an oversized leather bag and wearing unusual ballet-inspired shoes, with both accessories attracting attention online.
The Spanish singer paired the accessories with a black minidress and oversized black sunglasses. Her pale pink satin shoes featured ribbons tied around her ankles, black platform soles, and transparent heels, creating a striking contrast with the large printed leather bag.
Rosalía Wears Archival Ballet-Inspired Shoes
The shoes were an archival design from Japanese fashion designer Junko Shimada's spring 2009 collection. Lady Gaga wore the same design in 2009, when her public wardrobe frequently featured theatrical footwear; this gives the footwear a history that predates Rosalía's recent appearance by more than a decade.
Shimada's footwear borrows the satin finish and ankle ribbons associated with ballet-inspired pointe shoes but adds raised platforms and transparent heels. The clear sections create the appearance of a dancer lifted onto the tips of her toes.
The design places the satin-covered front of the shoe above the ground on a substantial platform. Its transparent heel provides support while allowing the ballet-inspired shape to remain visible. Rosalía wore the shoes with ribbons extending above her ankles, rather than styling them akin to a traditional flat ballet slipper.
Photographs of the outfit were shared in the r/popculturechat Reddit community. Discussion in the thread included the unusual proportions of the bag and the construction of the shoes.
The Oversized Bag Has a Connection to a Film
Rosalía's other accessory was a custom leather bag by designer Dana Toder, originally created for filmmaker Lili Conzen's forthcoming short film Krähe. The piece measures approximately one metre long and 60 centimetres high, as described by Vogue.
Its printed graphics combine archival photographs from Toder's and Conzen's collections with images of women featured in the film, spanning the 1970s to the present. The images cover much of the exterior of the bag, making the leather piece as visually prominent as its oversized shape.
Toder worked on the design with Shmulik, an 80-year-old leatherwork mentor. The bag was made for the film rather than produced as part of an ordinary retail collection. Krähe explores women's visibility in fashion and features women over 70 years old in leading roles.
Toder currently accepts custom orders for variations of the design and plans to release a smaller ready-to-wear version in 2027. However, the specific bag carried by Rosalía was created as a one-off prop for the film. The availability of custom variations does not mean the singer's original bag can be purchased, however.
The bag's scale also invites comparison with the 'ludicrously capacious' handbag line from the television series Succession. The phrase became a popular shorthand for oversized bags after it appeared in the programme.
Ballet References Extend to Rosalía's Stage Wardrobe
Rosalía has also incorporated ballet-inspired elements into her performances. Her Lux tour has featured pointe work and costumes drawing on classical dance, including a custom Dior tutu designed by Jonathan Anderson for the US leg of the tour.
The Junko Shimada shoes carry those visual references into a street-style outfit, but their construction differs from the footwear used by ballet dancers. Their black platforms and transparent heels distinguish them from conventional pointe shoes, even as the pink satin and ankle ribbons echo ballet styling.
