Lenny Kravitz
Ken has officially entered his rock-star era, with Lenny Kravitz bringing the attitude Barbie Instagram

Lenny Kravitz has officially entered the Barbie universe, but this is no ordinary Ken makeover. The Grammy-winning musician has been transformed into a collectable Ken doll as Mattel's second-ever 'Kenbassador', bringing his unmistakable rock-star style to one of the world's most recognisable toy brands.

Released on Thursday, 17 September, the Barbie Signature Kenbassadors Lenny Kravitz Collectible Doll celebrates the singer's career, fashion influence and recent Blue Electric Light Tour. The timing also marks Ken's 65th anniversary, giving Mattel another reason to put the spotlight on a cultural figure whose image has long been defined by individuality.

Unmistakably Kravitz

The doll is unmistakably Kravitz. Mattel recreated his likeness with trademark locs, tattoos and a nose ring, while the outfit takes inspiration from his tour wardrobe. The figure wears a bronze-coloured mesh cowl-neck top, boot-leg denim jeans, a studded belt, boots and sunglasses. A stand and certificate of authenticity are also included.

Kravitz was involved in the process, telling PEOPLE that the clothes were replicas of pieces he wore during the tour. He pointed to details including his vintage-inspired glasses and a necklace that belonged to his late mother. Even the tattoos were reproduced, including one dedicated to his mother.

For Kravitz, the collaboration appears to be as surreal as it is stylish. 'To be chosen by Mattel as a Kenbassador, only the second one in history, is an honour and absolutely surreal,' he said in a statement.

Recognising the Kenbassadors

The musician follows basketball legend LeBron James, who became the first Kenbassador when the collection launched in 2025. Mattel created the series to recognise men who have made a significant impact on culture, extending Ken's role beyond the traditional fashion-and-beach persona associated with the character.

While the idea of squeezing a rock legend into Ken's world sounds like a novelty, the design is clearly intended to preserve what makes Kravitz recognisable. Rather than giving him a generic doll makeover, Mattel has effectively miniaturised one of his stage personas.

That attention to detail could also help explain the early demand. Billboard reported that the doll was already proving difficult to find only hours after its release, with Amazon's direct inventory sold out and some reseller listings appearing above the original price.

The official retail price is $70, with the doll available online through Mattel Creations and major retailers, subject to availability.

Kravitz's arrival also adds a decidedly rock 'n' roll flavour to the Kenbassadors collection. His four-decade career spans music, acting, production, fashion and design, while his flamboyant wardrobe has become part of his public identity.

Fitting Inside Ken's Box

Kravitz's wider legacy gives the collectable more context than a simple celebrity likeness. He has released 12 studio albums and sold more than 50 million records worldwide, according to Mattel, while his catalogue includes hits such as 'Are You Gonna Go My Way', 'Fly Away' and 'It Ain't Over Til It's Over'. His latest studio album, Blue Electric Light, arrived in 2024 and became the foundation for the tour that inspired the doll's styling.

So, can rock 'n' roll's coolest icon fit inside Ken's box? Apparently, yes — but Mattel has made sure there is still plenty of room for the locs, tattoos, mesh and attitude that make this Ken unmistakably Lenny Kravitz.
