Zac Posen's creative work at Gap has won praise as the American fashion brand builds new momentum through fashion @zacposen/Instagram

Gap spent years trying to find the spark that once made it one of America's biggest fashion names. Now, with designer Zac Posen helping shape its creative direction, the brand is enjoying stronger sales, viral campaigns and a new place in the fashion talk.

The change has caught the eye of shoppers and fashion fans online. One recent social media post praised Posen for doing a 'phenomenal job' at Gap, pointing to the brand's campaigns, customer events and cultural partnerships as signs of its new energy.

Zac Posen Helps Give Gap a New Look

Posen joined Gap Inc. in February 2024 as Executive Vice President and Creative Director, while also taking the role of Chief Creative Officer at Old Navy. Gap Inc. said at the time that he would work as a 'cultural curator' and creative partner to chief executive Richard Dickson as the company tried to bring new life to its brands.

It was a major move for a designer best known for high-fashion gowns and red-carpet looks. Posen has worked in fashion for more than 25 years, but Gap gave him a much bigger job that reaches across one of America's largest clothing companies.

Still, Gap's comeback cannot be credited to Posen alone. Gap brand CEO Mark Breitbard and chief marketing officer Fabiola Torres have also played key roles, while Dickson has pushed a wider plan to make Gap Inc.'s brands more important in culture again.

Viral Campaigns Put Gap Back in Pop Culture

Gap has also found new ways to get people talking beyond GapStudio. Its 'Better in Denim' campaign with KATSEYE launched in August 2025 with the group dancing to Kelis's 'Milkshake', while Gap said the campaign later reached more than 8 billion impressions and 500 million social media views.

The company has continued mixing its old American style with new stars. In July 2026, Gap teamed with Hailey Bieber on 'The Hailey Jean', a limited denim collection inspired by her vintage Gap jeans, her 1996 birth year and the relaxed look of the 1990s.

Those projects are part of a much wider effort to make Gap feel current again, rather than proof that Posen personally created every campaign. Breitbard, Torres, Dickson and other Gap teams have worked alongside Posen on the comeback, with music, celebrity partnerships and fashion playing different roles.

Has Zac Posen Made Gap Cool Again?

There is a strong case that Posen has helped make Gap feel more like a fashion brand again. GapStudio has brought designer-led clothes to the retailer, while his celebrity pieces have given the company fashion moments that would have seemed unusual for Gap only a few years ago.

But calling Gap's revival a one-man job would go too far. The company was already working on store closures, better products and a clearer brand identity before Posen arrived, while its marketing team has been behind some of the campaigns that brought Gap back into pop culture.

What can be said is that Gap looks very different from the struggling brand of a few years ago. With double-digit comparable sales growth at the Gap brand in the first two quarters of fiscal 2026 and Posen continuing to push GapStudio forward, the American fashion giant has fresh momentum, and plenty of people are watching what it does next.
