Kim Kardashian reveals why she has been reluctant to discuss her oesophagitis diagnosis, saying the subject hits particularly close to home because her father died from oesophageal cancer. The American reality TV star opened up about her health concerns during the 29 October episode of The Kardashians, admitting that she had not told many people about the diagnosis because it brought back painful memories of Robert Kardashian.
"I haven't really told too many people about this, just because I think it's something that really hits home for me and I just don't really wanna go there," Kim said. "With my dad having passed away from esophagus cancer, hopefully I can just take medication and this will go away."
Her comments came as she spoke about the medical concerns that had been weighing on her mind. Her father's death in 2003 has made the situation particularly difficult to process, although Kim remains hopeful that medication will help resolve her condition.
Kim Opens Up About Her Diagnosis
The SKIMS founder had previously revealed her oesophagitis diagnosis earlier in the season. The condition involves inflammation of the tissues lining the oesophagus, although she did not elaborate on the specific cause of her diagnosis.
A preview for the following episode shows Kim discussing further findings from her doctors while preparing for a procedure. In the footage, she explains: 'The doctor says my esophagus has these irregularities, and I have to have them cut out. It's the same thing my dad had.'
She adds, "So I've seen a couple of doctors, and it's been heavy on my mind lately."
Her Father's Death Still Affects Her
Robert Kardashian, a prominent lawyer who was part of O.J. Simpson's defence team, died from oesophageal cancer on 30 September 2003, aged 59. His death was a significant loss for Kim and her siblings, who have spoken about their relationship with their father over the years. While she has been open about certain aspects of her medical history on the family's reality series, she admitted that this situation touches on memories she would rather not revisit.
It must be noted, however, that Oesophagitis and oesophageal cancer are two different conditions, although former can be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer. And as of this time, it has not been established that the socialite's oesophageal irregularities are related in any way to her father's cancer.

Kim Has Discussed Other Health Concerns
The latest revelation follows another unexpected health concern that Kim previously mentioned on The Kardashians. In a November 2025 episode, she revealed that doctors had discovered a brain aneurysm during a scan, prompting her to seek advice from neurosurgeon Keith Black.
Kim told her sister Kourtney Kardashian that doctors had said the aneurysm had probably been present for years. She also explained that she had contacted Black, who requested further imaging to assess the finding.
A preview of the following episode shows Kim preparing to have the irregularities in her oesophagus removed, but the footage does not provide further details about the findings or the outcome of the procedure. New episodes of The Kardashians stream on Thursdays on Hulu.
